Right now Cam Newton has the highest passer rating in the SEC @ 182.47, he is ranked 2nd in passing TD’s with 9 (behind only Mallet), and he leads the entire SEC in rushing with 485 yards (121/gm). I believe we all can stop wandering if he is the real deal or not.. he is. So what can stop Auburn from going to Tuscaloosa on Nov 26th (Friday after Thanksgiving – I don’t like this game being the biggest retail shopping day of the year. I just don’t think its good nationally for it) and battling the Crimson Tide for the SEC West Championship? Rushing Defense? Nope. They rank 3rd in the Conference tied with Alabama at 106 yds/ game. The only thing that could hurt Auburn this year is their Passing D and I think it is getting better every day. Could Arkansas pull off a win against em?? maybe. But Arkansas plays Auburn tough every year, I don’t see this year being any different.
So based off what I have seen so far, Auburn is the 2nd best team behind the Tide in the West and I don’t think they are as far behind them as some may think.. Alabama is beatable.
Auburns remaing schedule. Louy Monroe (WIN), @UK (WIN), Arkansas at home (Toss up, w/ the pass D being the weak link Arky could win this game), LSU at home (Auburn will be a favorite and should win), @ Miss (WIN), Chatt (WIN), Georgia (WIN) , @ Bama… So even if the Tiger lose one then they should be going in to T-Town with the West on the line.
Bottom line on Auburn is Coach Gene Chizik has the team playing over their heads. They show up and have a never say die attitude. Cam Newton is one, if not THE, most talented players in the SEC and when you have a coach that leads, a playmaker at the helm, and a fan base that is more excited than they have been in years.. its a recipe for success.

I have tried to hold my excitement at bay for Cam Newton because I know he has only played 4 games but he makes it harder and harder every week for me to keep saying I am not sure if he is the REAL DEAL yet. I told you on the phone before the game if this SC game was his coming party in the SEC he has arrived. I think it was and he has. I don't know if I would say he is as good as Terrell Pryor yet but Cam's potential is scary good.
ReplyDeleteI would disagree that we are playing over our heads I agree we are playing with passion, our offense has yet to play 4 good quarters and is riddled with bad penalties and turnovers, but we usually get it together in the second half. Our D has also not played a good first half yet (a lot has to our offense not being on the field because of turnovers, short scoring drives and three an outs). I think if our O and D can play for 4 quarters we are tough for anyone to beat. But with youth comes inconsistency so hopefully Gene can keep them pumped enough to keep scratching and clawing for great wins. I love the heart, intensity, and physicality this team plays with in every game. No matter what happens the rest of the year I think most Auburn fans owe a big apology to Gene Chizik he is a great motivator, a great coach and a great recruiter and I think we got the right guy.

ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone said one man is but when has anyone ever the SEC without a great player or two. Our D is getting better every game and so is our offense. I don't think we are the favorite to win the West that is still Bama and we have some tough games ahead of us but they are mostly all at home and Cam and Dyer have only played 4 games they will both get better. Our glaring weakness is our secondary but I still think our D is better than Ark and is actually getting better every week. To say someone is out of their mind for saying we can compete for the west is a typical Alabama arrogance, your secondary isn't exactly Javier Arenas and Karim Jackson again, but hopefully pretending they are will help you overlook a true weak point on your team. If you think Bammer is as better than last years team you are delusional. I can only hope we are both unbeaten so that game is the biggest game in the country that week.
ReplyDeleteYeah it is definitely arrogance to think that the reigning SEC & National Champ is good and will win the West. Alabama IS unbeatable...right now. Why? Because nobody has fucking done it the past two years. And you know what Pecker, the offense is better than last years and the defense isn't far behind. We took the best shot Arkansas had to give and, while playing our worst game this season, walked away with a victory. Instead of panic, Bama stayed poised and calm. Then they did what champions do: regrouped, stuck to their game plan and won the game. Everyone on this board has raved about Mallett and how he may be the best true QB in the nation. If that is so, I feel pretty damn good about where the defense stands. While he did have some unforced mistakes, it isn't like he was just standing around with no pressure throwing those INT's. This board loves to dump on Bama and their fans. Georgia is a fucking joke, Auburn hasn't done shit to date and GT is hanging around mediocrity again. I too hope that Auburn is undefeated for the Iron Bowl. That way when the Tide rolls, there won't be any excuses.

If Florida beats Bama will you be a Gaytor fan? I guess the one positive is that you have a higher chance of having someone to pull for in Atlanta this year.
Pulley, I know you are not very smart but I thought at least you could read. I said Bamer was favored to win the west but it was arrogance to think no one could compete with them or even had a chance to. Yes your offense is better and your defense is very far behind where it was last year. Mostly in the secondary. If us beating the number #12 by 8 is doing nothing so far this year then neither is you beating #10 by 4.

ReplyDeleteAs for you Defense - 09 Mallet had 191 passing yards going 16-41.. in 10 Mallet had 357 yards and 25-38. he threw 3 less passes and completed 9 more. Ark scored 13 more points this year than last..

Pecker, what I meant by Auburn not doing much is the following: its been 4 games so far this year. Yes they are better than last year, but they haven't done anything that makes me think very differently about them or worried about playing them. Cam Newton is a beast and if he continues to progress throughout the season, maybe I will change my tune. I meant no disrespect to you, your post or your team. Just seems to me that everyone on this board has a deep hatred for Bama and anytime myself or Jody defend them or some post, it is called arrogance, being a homer, etc.
ReplyDeleteJoe, I don't have time to do research and 100% validate the following statement, but I would wager that if you broke down the game last week it would be as follows: Young DB's overwhelmed by first important game of the season in a hostile environment; several blown coverages and Mallet has a HUGE first half. Second half....pretty much the opposite of the first half. And who doesn't recognize talent? Mallet is the real deal as I have stated here on this board and last Saturday. I know you think that you are a football coach and that your words are pearls of wisdom that should be followed by the masses......but none of that is true.
Well I don't know about everyone else on this board I hate Bamer for the same you hate AU we were raised that way, so I can only speak for me. I think AU will know much more about itself after ARK at home to if our secondary really is improving every game.

AND I think Jody represents the minority of Bama fans and you are the prototype. I mean just look at the comments. Jody disagrees and says he thinks i am out of mind. not because cam newton isnt great but because he believes that it takes more than one player to win the SEC which is a very valid point (tebow being the exception) but what you fail to realize is that most people dont hate the University of Alabama.. we hate you.

I know you are still licking your wounds from 3 straight losses. And you are the typical UGA fan if I have ever seen one. Preseason national champ and around week 3 its excuses for the rest of the year and talk about how the following season is gonna be your year. So why don't you sit back and let the big boys play football while you convince yourself that one day soon UGA will be relevant again.
