Raven’s Draft F up last night

If you watched the draft last night you should remember that when it came time for the Ravens to pick…. well, it was a complete cluster fuck.  Here is why.

The complete story is HERE if you want to go to it

And it s by Kevin Byrne Senior Vice President of Public and Community Relations - BaltimoreRavens.com

Okay, I'll admit it. My heart rate went up a few notches in the draft room last night.
But, as John Harbaugh told reporters: "You have to give it to Ozzie (Newsome). He remained calm and we got the player we wanted."
No doubt Oz was hearing a lot of voices in the room as our 10-minute allotment at the 26th spot in the first round counted down. Plus, the Ravens' general manager was literally on two phone calls: the NFL (Joel Bussert, the league's player personnel expert) on his left ear and the Chicago Bears on his right.
Here's how the drafting of Colorado cornerback Jimmy Smith went down:
Prior to our pick at 26, a team called Ozzie and offered a trade for the spot. Newsome told them he would get back to them.
Oz then announced to those in the room: "We have 10 minutes until it's our turn. We'll see if we get any other calls. If we don't like what we hear, we're taking Jimmy. Chad (Alexander), tell them to get a card ready with Jimmy Smith's name." Alexander, our assistant director of pro personnel, was on a headset phone with Ian Cunningham, a personnel assistant, who was in New York at the Ravens' draft table.
With just over five minutes left during our time, another team called and made an offer for our spot. "That's not enough," Newsome told the caller.
With just over four minutes remaining, the Bears called and made an offer. Oz told them "not good enough, we're ready to pick."  Chicago called back within a minute and agreed to Ozzie's suggestion. Almost instantly, Oz had Bussert on the line. "Joel, we just made a trade with the Bears. They're calling you now," Newsome said.
A minute later – now around the two- minute mark - Ozzie said: "Joel, I've got them on the other phone. They've agreed."
To the Bears: "Joel said you guys haven't confirmed the trade."
"Joel, they said they called. I don't know (who they called)."
To the Bears: "Joel says you guys haven't called. What's going on?"
"Joel, are you sure your phones are good. They said they called. Let's go."
Someone in the draft room called out: "Oz, Kansas City is ready to pick."
"They won't take Smith," Joe Hortiz, our director of college scouting, said loudly.
Alexander alerted the room: "Kansas City is walking the pick to the table."
Newsome, who was still trying to get the offered draft pick from Chicago, said to the Bears: "What's going on? Joel said you haven't called and there's no problem with the phones. … We're done. Chad, turn in the card."
Whew!
Hard to single out the happiest guy in the room at the time. Certainly, John Harbaugh was beaming. Secondary Coach Teryl Austin, who had come into the room 20 minutes earlier for what I would call "lobbying by his presence," was thrilled. But, I think that was the biggest smile I've ever seen on Defensive Coordinator Chuck Pagano's face. Then I heard Chuck tell Jimmy over the phone:  "Get ready to play. We'll put you on the other team's best. You ready for that? I know you are. You're part of the Ravens' defense now."
My immediate reaction was to get to Oz and tell him that some media were going to be saying the Ravens messed up by letting the clock expire.
"Oz, the Bears messed up. We shouldn't take the hit for this," I told the Wizard.
"I'm not going to throw the Bears under the bus," Newsome said.
"Well, how about at least explaining that we had a deal with another team and that they did not follow through with a confirmation at the last second?"
Newsome: "Okay, I'll do that. But, Kevin, we got the kid we wanted and he can really play."
In the end, the Bears soon admitted at a press conference that they "had dropped the ball on a trade with Baltimore."
Nice of them, I guess. But, we'd rather have the draft pick. While it worked out, it could have been a bad situation for us, the NFL and the Bears.

Ozzie Newsome is the guy that Bamars can all but count on to be their AD when dip shit Mal Moore steps down.

Everything but the kitchen sink

Well, apparently so do the Falcons. Now as you guys know I am neither a Falcons fan nor an Alabama fan. That being said even though the Falcons aren’t my team I moved near Atlanta when I was 11 and pull for them when they are not playing the Bucs.

This was one of my friends facebook status last night. “ Hey, I'm excited about Julio Jones being a Falcon, but I can't believe what was given up to get him. Dimitroff gave this year's 1st, 2nd, and 4th round picks, and next year's 1st and 4th rounders. Also, he gave up the Hawks 1st round pick in 2012, two of the Braves top pitching prospects, all of the Thrashers, and a Tyler Perry movie to be named later. It just seems a bit much to me.”

I can’t help but agree with this. For years I have told my friends that are Falcons fans when they got rid of Jenkins and got a legit number 2 receiver (Julio is more than a legit #2) they would be getting somewhere. However I did not mean ignore the glaring weakness in the secondary and trade any chance of getting a decent corner or saftey for the next two years. Most shocking is that Dimitroff was raised better than this, Bilichek would never do this, that is why he has 3 rings.

With all that being said Julio will be fun to watch and an instant fantasy stud, but do you guys think the price was too high?

NFL Draft

I love watching the draft.  I enjoy seeing what direction teams are wanting to go, the last minute trades, guys expecting to go early not, guys not excepting to go early and do, just everything about it I enjoy.

I have seen stories (peter king – who I respect) say that the Falcons are trying to trade up to the 5 spot to get AJ or Julio from the 27 spot.  I don’t see Dimitroff (Falcons GM) doing this.  As you can see with the Patriots having 3 of the first 33 picks and 6 in the first 3 rounds – Dimitroff comes from that same thinking where you trade to get picks not to give up picks.  So I see the Falcons taking a pass rusher in their normal spot.  (it would be fun to see AJ in a Falcons jersey though)

Atlanta-Falcons-GM-Dimitroff

Cam Newton is all but certain the #1 pick, according to everyone that has an opinion on the draft, but the more I see him the less I like him….  nothing to do with the pay-for-play scheme allegations (or getting carried off the field – starrett) because I think I have been pretty fair on Cam this entire year.  I’m talking about from a NFL QB stand point.  He just doesn’t get me excited.   I think we could see a shit load of QB’s taken in the first couple of rounds and I look forward to seeing who Shanahan takes.  I read this morning that no-one, even in the Denver organization, knew that CMS was picking Cutler until the day of the draft and after the McNabb debacle I think he has his eye on someone and I respect his eye for QB talent.

Marcell-Dareus

Marcel Darius is my favorite player going into tonight.  I saw 3 Bama rookies make impacts on the defensive side of the ball last year (Mclain, Arenas, and Jackson) and Darius could end up being a true beast on the D front.

I think Ingram doesn’t go in the first round but who ever gets him is getting a steal.  All the mock drafts I have seen have him going 15 to the Dolphins but I think Miami gets a QB and I hadn’t seen anyone else have a RB picked after Ingram in the first RD so we could see him take dive like we have seen some others do in the past couple of years.

If the Falcons do pick a Pass-rusher who will it be??  Am I just being a total homer by wanting it to be Justin Houston?  or will Houston be gone by 27.

Always love to see who Pittsburgh picks.  Last year they took a center in the first round and I specifically remember all the talking heads chuckling saying, ‘who takes a center in the first round?’ - last year the NFL had 2 rookies in the pro-bowl.  The #1 over all pick in Sue, and guess who else??  that’s right, the Center from Pittsburgh – Pouncey.  His brother is actually in the draft this year, another center, he could be the next Center takin in the first round.

Draft ranking vs Recruting ranking

Pretty good read and thought this was appropriate with the draft tonight.

Teacher strips

Harlon Porter (I can’t find a picture, but I am searching) strips his clothes off and walks the halls naked, last Friday, at around 3.30 after kids had left.

"he wanted everybody to be free now that his third eye was open." (i did not make that shit up)

He understood that hid teaching days were probably up with the Clayton school system.

Tornado’s

This is some of the best footage of a Tornado I have ever seen.

Future queen of England.

She'd get boar hawged. Parnell style.

Tiger injured again. WTF?

Since we've been on golf a little more now days, I'd like to keep it on there to keep educating Joseph a little more about the best game on earth.

Tiger has come out and said he sprained his MCL and strained his achilles again. He did all this on his second shot into 17 on Saturady's round at Augusta. My question to you guys is this: He needs 5 majors to get to 19 and pass The Golden Bear. Can he do it or is he basically done? I can see him winning one or two more but I can also see him going on a run and winning 6-7 more. What do you guys think?

Also, if you arent watching Morning Drive on the Golf Channel you need to.

Blog needs some comedy, so here ya go.....

The Hawks??

Atlanta is better than Orlando…  But that is probably it.  They are not a good basketball team and are just plain ugly at times.

15 November 2008: A member of Atlanta's "A-Town Dancers" dance team in Atlanta Hawks 119-107 loss to the New Jersey Nets at Philips Arena in Atlanta, GA.

The Magic has been sucking pretty bad in this series and the more I watch them the more I see the Magic losing rather than the Hawks winning.

Tommy 2 Gloves

Reese brought this guy up a few weeks back and the more you learn of him the more you like him.

tommy2gloves

Just a few years ago Tommy Gainey was wrapping insulation around water heaters and this weekend he was going toe to toe with some of the best golfers in the world.  The South Carolina crowd greeted him with a standing ovation walking up #18 and Tommy gave them a around of applause right back just 1 putt from a share of the lead.  The putt missed and Gainey, in Tiger like fashion, started to slam his hat on the green and then stopped himself… slowly removed his cap, and in non-tiger like fashion, bowed to the crowed.

Thug Life

Brandon Marshall is a thug.  He just got stabbed by a bitch and I am glad.  Yes!  I said I am glad that a thug ass punk got stabbed by a bitch.  He is in critical condition and I could care less about his recovery.

brandonmarshall

Darrent Williams is dead right now and Brandon Marshall was the man that the gun man was wanting to shoot.

He has been arrested for disorderly conduct (not going to judge him on this one), drunken driving (not going to judge him on this one either) and a number of domestic violence incidents.

So Brandon – just like 2 Pac once said, ‘Thug life till I die Nigga!’

NBA Playoffs

The East

The Chicago Bulls have the 1 seed and are sliding right past the Pacers.  I really like this Bulls team but we might not know if they are ready for a playoff series until the Conference Finals.  Atlanta seems to be better than Orlando but neither will be able to compete with the Bulls.

bulls

So I’m inking the Bulls in the Conf. Finals but who will they be playing??

Boston and Miami are both up 3-0 in their series and then they will get to dog fight each other to see who plays the Bulls.

Boston seems to have waited for the playoffs like they have done in recent years and it appears to be working out for them.  Last night my man Paul Pierce and my homeboy Ray Allen brought home (i’m trying to use a little Ebonics since we are talking B Ball.. to much?) 70 pts together with Rondo getting 20 assists to set a Celtic playoff record.  (Celtic playoff record is pretty damn good seeing how many playoff teams they have had).  I just see the Celtics being to tough for the Heat.  I see them being to physical.  These boys are going to be bringing it like Starrett in Bethany Gym breaking fucking collar bones and shit.

So incase you don’t watch any playoffs – Ill give you another update once the 3 seed Celtics and the 1 seed Bulls face off in the Conf. Finals.

The West                (CROTCH SHOT!!)

LakerGirlsCloseUp

The west seems to be a little more up in the air.  The Lakers got surprised when New Orleans took game 1 in LA.  The Spurs are 1-1 with Memphis and Dallas is 2-1 on a Portland team that is playing pretty damn good.  Oklahoma City is up 2-0 on Denver and is begging me to pick them in the Conf. Finals as a 4 seed.

I’m going with Oklahoma City with the 4 seed playing the Lakers with the 2 seed.

Wanee

Tonight will be the last sane night I will have until I am back at home Sunday afternoon.  We leave for Wanee Music Festival at the crack of dawn

tomorrow morning.

  Wanee2011_LNphoto

There will be about 15 guys, most of whom are crazy as hell, camping out all weekend and going to see some very quality music.

Something that is on the agenda that I will try to get some good video of – having a fishing pole with a rubber snake on the end and having it across the walkway – when a group of people walk by drag the snake in front of them.  Once the group of people scream then we point and laugh.  Since there will be a huge number of stinky hippies then we may also to use a dollar bill and watch them chase it.    Either way, should get some good responses.

the people that are going that are on this blog – Rusty, some of you may remember him, he hasn’t been on the blog in a good while but Reese will know him as ‘Vol Ball baby’  and Pepper, who is very active on the blog, will also be attending.  I’m pretty sure that will be the only people that will be representing southern fried.

Good stories to come!

One of my new favorite golfers........

And no, I'm not talking about Masters Champion Charl Shwartzel. Rory Mcilroy has quickly become one of my favorite golfers to pull for on tour. I usually pull for Americans (especially Tiger and some of the older generation like Couples and Watson) but this guy is what it is all about. Look at how he handled himself after that horrible round. Unreal he is that mature at such a young age. I will be the first to say, I am 34 years old and if I were in that position, there is no way I would handle myself as well as he did.

I never really pulled for Rory before now, but going forward he'll be on my short list of who I want to win. He will win several majors before his clubs are retired and he may be the leader of the new generation of golfers. Hats off to Rory Mcilroy.

Watch Out!

The roars got a little louder and louder Friday in Augusta.

My thoughts?  Hell Yea!  Come on Tiger!  Win you another green jacket and let the world know that you are back.

Could I be jumping the gun?  Hell yes I could be – but everyone of you knew, deep down inside, that he was coming – just a matter of when.

Calloway Or Lay-O-Way?

9247381-large

Don’t you hate it when people presume that you are guilty with out considering the source?  Don’t you hate it when there may not even be a source but people still feel comfortable presuming guilt?  Don’t you hate it when you only hear one side of the story but yet people STILL presume guilt??

Well welcome to the game Alabamar.  I guess I shouldn’t say ‘ welcome’ hell, you bastards invented this game  didn’t you?

All day today and yesterday afternoon I sat and listened to excuse after excuse - ‘Look who broke the story’, ‘auburn is just wanting to get the heat off their backs’, and my favorite ‘they aint no way that A-la-BAMA would have to pay somebody’

You guys have been BEGGING and HOPING and PRAYING that Auburn goes down for the sCam Newton deal and now the ‘Tide’ is turning (pun intended)

Greatest Porn Star

On the male side I think it comes down to 3 guys with a 4th making the list just out of respect.

1st goes to John Holmes in my book.  Everyone knew his name and most have seen him in action.

holmes

2nd will go to Peter North.  The oil machine was always was good for at least 5 or 6 strong shots at the end.  He was clean cut and I don’t ever remember him doing any really nasty stuff.

pete

3rd is Ron Jeremy.  Ron has made a huge name for himself and some would argue that he would be ahead of Pete.

Ron Jeremy

Honorable Mention to Rocco Siffredi, better known as the The Italian Stallion – Rocco was bigger (no pun) than Holmes over seas but in the states he can’t make the top 3.

The Female list was pretty easy for a #1.

Jenna Jameson is a clear cut #1.  For her looks, her fame, and her career.  She was a power hitter on the scene for over a decade and is still making appearances that bring heavy crowds.

 220px-Jenna_Jameson_Jan12_2007

#2 is Bambi Woods.  She was a pioneer of her time.  She starred and probably the most well known porn film of all time - ‘Debbi Does Dallas’

 c9hjr7o3jic9j3cr

Tera Patrick makes #3 and probably because she is oriental.  She was ‘Pet of the Year’ runner up before (i think) she began her career as a porn star.

Ass of the Day

Besides the obvious reason for this selection – 2 other reasons were the wetness of the ass and the ass jewelry.  I have never personally seen ass jewelry before but I think it is a very nice addition to what is already a pretty ass.  It’s hard to imagine that this thing produces poop and gas isn’t it??  the question you need to ask yourself is how close to this ass would you stand knowing that it was about to fart?
