With football season right around the corner, I wanted to get at least one more golf post in. What does the blog think about Tiger's decision to fire Steve Williams? They have to be one of the most - if not the most - successful player/caddie combos ever. (no facts were checked prior to making that statement) On one hand I think that Tiger is doing all that he can to make a complete, fresh start when he returns to golf. After all of the shit he put himself through, he probably feels that getting rid of everyone (except his agent) that he was involved with during that period in his life is the only way to truly close the chapter and move on. However, on the other hand I can't think of any other caddie that he should want to have right now. Tiger no longer intimidates anyone - the gallery included. Without Stevie to threaten bodily harm to photographers and anyone that says the wrong thing what will Tiger do? The dude just looks completely lost out there and now he has severed ties with one of his best & most loyal friends. I get that it is a business and Tiger can hire/fire whomever he pleases, but I think he just made a huge mistake. Stevie was/is someone that wouldn't take any of his shit and wasn't afraid to tell him when he was wrong.

Great post. I hated Stevie, but like you said; he didn't take any shit off anyone and was exactly what Tiger needed. Does Tiger still have the power to pluck any caddie he wants off another bag? Does a Joe Laccaba(sp?) or a Steve Duplantis(R.I.P) take a gamble off a steady/productive golfer's bag to roll the dice and see if Tiger still has it?
ReplyDeleteLooping has become a huge job. It's not just carrying the bag anymore. Those guys make a shit ton of money. Even the tight asses like Tiger pay those guys 10%.
I say fuck Tiger, but kind of hope he gets it back.
Adam Scott gets all the young pussy now, ladies love him. Tiger's man whoring days are so out in the public eye now that he has no chance to re live the glory hole days. Adam Scott is a puss magnet, so Stevie made a great move. STEVIE LOVES THE GINE!

Starrett, you are right on. If Tiger is anything, he is an egotistical maniac. The minute Stevie picked up another set of clubs it was all over. Tiger may have publicly said it was cool, but look what happened to Fluff. I don't agree with Tiger not paying him anything for the past 18 months (if that is true), but he made Stevie a shit pot of money. He wouldn't have the endorsement deal with Valvoline if it weren't for Tiger and he won't have the same type of exposure moving forward.
Reese, I don't think Tiger still has the power to get anyone he wants. Plus, not all caddies have what it takes to be in that kind of spotlight. The first time they club him wrong or read a putt the wrong way all hell will break loose.
