My uneducated thoughts on the weekend

Dawgs: They basically just ran into a better team. Dawgs played like the same 6-7 team that ended the 2010 season. Let's see what they do with Spurrier coming to Athens this weekend before we all jump to throwing them under the bus.

GT: I went to the game and was not impressed with what I saw. You can't really get a read off of a horrible D1-AA team.

Burn: Not as good as last year(duh), but ran into a team that is better than people think. IIRC Utah St played some people tough last year.

Bama: ????

Notre Dame: Happy they lost

Clemson: Beat a Troy team, by a pretty fair margin, that historically is a decent team. Watch out Burn, Clemson could be out for blood this year.

  1. UGA: I had Boise St winning this game, but was a little surprised when it got to be a 3 touchdown lead. The coaching staff needs an overhaul. I saw zero fire out of CMR on the sidelines. Murray made some bad decisions, but I don't think the coaching staff did him any favors. The South Carolina game is huge if UGA wants to have a successful season.

GT: Didn't see the game, but saw the score. I will defer to Reese's comments above.

Auburn: Wow. That's about all I can say. Pretty sure that everyone expected a drop off with Cam being gone, but did any of the Auburn guys see what happened on Saturday coming?

Alabama: Not happy with Saban at all in regards to the quarterback situation. Pick a starter and move on. This was a typical game against a lesser team in my opinion. No one needed to be great and good is about all they got from their key guys. McCarron looked good early. Richardson scored 3 times, but got stuffed quite a few times behind the line. Lacy is going to be a beast. Defense was stingy. Turnovers are a little concerning, but it is the first game of the season. Hopefully they turn it around this week against Penn St.

  2. UGA - Definite cause for concern here. I really felt good about the game. The entire offseason it kept being pumped about how the new AD had relieved so many duties from Richt and now he could get back to "doing what he loves and studying the game of football". Well, I bought in, and once again I was let down. I am not ready to throw in the towel yet, we'll reassess the situation after Saturday. I still think UGA has a very talented team, depth at OLine and Inside backers are a major concern right now though. One big win Saturday afternoon, and Dawgnation will be revived, one big loss, and Richt should probably hide in an underground cave for a few days.

GT - I didn't see them, like Pulley, I'll just go with what Reese says. But, they are on my list of early favorites to be a Week 2 COD LOCK.

AU - Wow, I was expecting a 5-6 win season here, but they may do good getting 4.

ALA - Who knows, the defense looked really good, but the offense left a lot of questions. We'll know more after the trip to Happy Valley.

  3. Auburn looked like shit. Embarrassing. The only bright side is we won if you have a game like that and can somehow not loose but still have that much stuff to be furious about in the film room, I guess that is good for the young guys. Now they know they can't throw their jerseys on the field and win just because they are more talented, we will see if they learned anything.

  4. Auburn lost 35 players off of last years team, not even a Cam could change that. Auburn will take there lumps but have great coaching so they'll be fine. Alabama offense last year was hands down the best ever and when needed couldn't produce, overrated as usual. Georgia got beat by what could be the next NCS

  5. I still don't buy into Boise State making the NC game. If their game against UGA was their showcase for the season, they are in trouble. This isn't a shot at our Georgia fans on the blog, but unless they can make some drastic improvements they will have several more losses. That doesn't bode well for Boise State in the polls. However, all they can do is play their schedule and see what happens.

ALee, I am confused by your Bama comment. What does that have to do with this year? Are you saying the offense is overrated or the team is overrated? The same argument could be made for Bama as you made for Auburn. Quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end, etc all gone from last years team.

  6. I think Utah will be a little bit of a measuring stick this year for Boise. Utah usually spend some time in the top 10 or finishes there. Last they played to big games back to back (something Bosie has never done) and lost both of them for their only 2 losses of the season until Boise killed in the bowl game. My point is the MW is a better conference than the MAC and Utah or TCU usually win it with only a loss to the other team. I said all that to say this if Utah losses 4 or 5 games in the Pac 12 Boise will never do it.

  7. In my opinion, they always have too many outside variables that determine where they end up in the polls. Who knows how it will all shake out? All that matters is football is back!

  8. The team is overrated. Cam is the only player off of Auburns team that would have started at bama.

  9. Okay. Thanks for clarifying. I think it is hard to say that Bama is overrated after winning 48-7, while saying that Auburn will take it's lumps and be just fine. They both played inferior teams. Like all things, we can just agree to disagree.
