I keep hearing the good defense thing also. But...before we played SC they had the best run-D in the nation and after we ran for 300 yards they were "overrated". Here are their rushing totals against the best teams they have played so far
UK Rushed for a whopping 52 yards on USC, the mighty alaBamar racked up 36 yards and averaged 1.2 yards per carry, UGA got 61 yards on them and Auburn ran for 334 yards.
now you tell me why that D is bad because we blew their average out of the water and got 3 games worth of rushing stats in 1 game.
Miss St. is the 13th best D in the nation and 21st in rushing offense and we beat them on the road.
Ark was ranked 13th in total defense until they took the Newton test. Also Ark only passed for 71 more yards against us than did against the mighty Alabama defense.
I am not saying we are going to win the National Championship hell I am not saying we will win the SEC we have 4 tough games left. I just want to know what teams Alabama, and LSU have played who's defenses are so much better than the ones we have played? None we have played the same teams. So how about everyone just "Hey, these guys are better than we thought they were going to be" instead of "Oh well let's wait until they play a real defense"!
My point was that Auburn has no defense you bumpkin. The question of what happens when they play a better defense was meant to be taken as the following: If or when Auburn faces a better defense that gets some stops, what will happen? Do you expect them to put up 65 points every week? Last week was a shoot out that was bound to end once somebody flinched. Auburn gave up 43 to the backup quarterback. What would have happened if Mallet would have been in the whole game? Plus, I gave Auburn props in the original post. They are scary good right now, but I think that THEIR defense is suspect. My point we haven't played all bad defenses. Your logic holds no watter because all of our games have not been shoot outs to 63 points, did you forget that SC scored less on us than they did Alabama? Or that MSU scored only 4 more points on us at home than they did against FL on the road or that they scored 10 more points on UGA (whos D is ranked 14th nationally) than they did us? Or maybe that Clemson scored as many points on Miami (in regulation) as they did us.
ReplyDeleteMy point is I know you hate it that AU is ranked higher than Bammer and that is fine, If you want to congratulate Auburn on having a good season so far that is fine but if you are going to say but.....then make sure know what those buts are and not just what you hear on Sportcenter.
You are trying too hard to make this a situation where I have slighted Auburn. The bottom line is the defense gives up a lot of points. Do I need to list the schedule and points allowed this season? If so, I will. And Sportscenter doesn't have shit on me.
ReplyDeleteAll I was letting you know was you said our defense wasn't good let's see what happens when you play a better defense. I was letting you know that we have played better defenses and not scored 63 points and still won. Now had you simply said I think AUs secondary might hurt them down the stretch or I don't know if Auburn can beat LSU I would have said me either it will be a tough game but I think we win 21-17. But we have played better defenses than ARK and you wondered what would happen when we did so I showed you.

ReplyDeleteIs last second, down to the wire, nut close wins against Clemson, Kentucky, Miss St showing me? Those teams get one more stop and your done. That is the point. I don't think you showed me anything. Your argument should have been what offenses has Alabama or LSU played that were any good. How LSU got into this discussion, I don't know. Regardless, your defense is suspect and I think beatable.
Maybe my post should have been Auburn is the luckiest mother fucking team in the country and sucks ass. That post would've gotten me just as far as this one did.
Enjoy your ranking though. The real games start now....for everyone. Hopefully, Auburn stays undefeated until the Iron Bowl. This way, its winner take all.

Chizick and Teddy Roof suck balls. I've also stated this many times(to Pepper's disapproval). The D sucks almost as bad as GT's.
Reese I know you loath Roof but I will give any new coach some time to overcome the depth problems that he has dealt with, I think you will agree the D has made some big stops when it mattered which they could not do last year so they are improving but next year needs to be MUCH better.

Winning games the way that AU has been winning them. Playing physical, fighting, never giving up I think is always a testament to your head coach.

interesting question Reese.. I would go with Chizz on this one. I believe one of the biggest things Auburn has going for it (besides Cam) is the fact that the team believes they can beat anybody, before the game, during the game(even when down), and he has proven he is an excellent recruiter. So I go with the chizz. plus the guy is a class act and really bleeds his school colors.

Gus/a good offense is all AU has right now. That will get them only so far, just ask JoeHam and George O'liar about Teddy's D. AU is in the same position the late 90's GT teams were in. They could score 50 on anyone, but couldn't stop anyone. That will catch up with them......eventually. With all this said, I'm not hating on AU. I pull for them and hope they beat the piss out of the dawgs every year.
