Would you pay a “31” year old first baseman who’s numbers have dipped in every category except home runs $300 million for 10 years? If you would here is some food for thought. Best power hitters of the last 15 years let’s name em’. I will start with Bonds, McGwire, Sosa, Pujols, and A-rod. 1 combined ring. Is paying for that power really worth it?

I would like to know the last 5 years World Series teams and who was the "Power Hitter" on that team and weigh what they were worth to that team.
ReplyDelete1. 2010- GIANTS - Aubry Huff led in every batting category. Would never have guessed that.
ReplyDelete2. 2009- YANKEES - ARod RBIs, Tex HR, Canoe Ba
3. 2008- PHILLIES - Palonco BA, Howard HR's and RBIs
4. 2007- RED SOX - Ortiz HRs and RBIs
5. 2006- CARDINALS - Pujols HRs RBIs, Holliday BA
Brad you beat me to the punch. All these guys were the "Power Hitter" of the teams, but they for the most part to do not have a great post season career. I will take pitching anyday over power hitters.
ReplyDeleteTo summarize some of the stats all of these guys except Pujlos hit under 35 HRs and under 110 RBIs. Pujols had 42 and 118. Pujols was the only power hitter to hit over .300. It is obvious Pujols is the man when it comes to batting, but knowing an avg of 31 and 102 RBIs from your best batter can win you a series, is any hitter worth $300 million
ReplyDeletethat is what i was expecting - and when pujols won it with the Cardinals - Detroit only scored 2 or less runs in 3 of the 4 Cardinal wins.
ReplyDeleteSo my answer would be NO. BUT!!! how much money did these power hitters make their teams in other stats. jerseys, tickets, etc..
I don't know the answer to that, but here is a little math. Prince Feilder will be a free agent also. His market value is 42% of Pujlos is and his production is 77% of what Pujlos is. Why use 30% of your payroll on a guy that only gets a chance to change the game 1 of every 9 at bats?
ReplyDeleteI agree - and if you look at the Cardinals w/ Pujlos you will see that they value 4 elite pitchers over 2 power hitters with them getting rid of Werth.
ReplyDeleteThe long ball is great for fans, but I would rather hitters like Chipper and Josh Hamiliton. We all know the homerun makes the money but solid pitching and steady hitting wins World Series. In saying that, this is a reason I think a healthy Baves team could make some noise.
ReplyDeleteWhat is everyones predictions for this years Fall Classic?
Go Braves...
Not a huge baseball fan, but it looks like it's going to be hard to beat Philly. They are loaded on the bump.
ReplyDeleteFrom the AL Im gonna go with The "Devil Rays". I like to call them by their original name. They just added Damon and Manny. Any production out of them and they are stacked.
