Hunting

I havent ever been a "serious" hunter. The older i get the more i do appreciate being in the outdoors, and being out of the house. Here are things that have to be acceptable for me to go hunting... 1) Beer. If you have a problem with me drinking a couple of beers in the deer stand (and it has to be a shooting house) then i will not go hunting with you. If i am going to be sitting up there watching nature then i want to drink a couple of cold beers while im up there. I'm not talking about getting shit faced, but if you are going hunting with me then dont be shocked when i pull a couple of cold beers out and shove them in my bag as we are leaving. 2) Morning. I'm not gonna be doing much morning hunting. this was always the problem i had hunting with frank. He enjoyed hunting at the butt crack of dawn more than he did the evenings. I enjoy laying in the bed when i dont have to go to work. my favorite thing to do is get up, eat breakfast, then go get back in the bed and watch espn. so even if i make plans to go, and i wake up at 4:30 when my alarm goes off, you have about 10:1 odds that i actually get up and go. 3) Time. I am not going to sit in the deer stand for 3 1/2 hours. i'm just not, sorry. i decide when i am going this way. Lets say it gets dark at 5:45. So at 5:30 its getting pretty tough to see. this, in my experience is when you see the most deer. so i will go about 4:30 so i can be in the stand by 4:45. this way i got 45 minutes and 2 beers. 4) Sport. i dont hunt for sport. i dont get a rush out of scouting out a area and finding the perfect place to put a stand. what i think is smart is to put some salt and corn out and make the deer come to you. if you shoot a big buck that you scouted out and i shoot a 110 lb doe eating out of bucket of corn, mine will taste just a good as yours.

NOW! on fishing. I have always loved fishing. With Granny and Grandpaw living on the lake - fishing was always accessible. Bass, Bream, Crappie, hell i used to love catching carp with loaf bread. Frank used to take me camping in the mountains and we would go trout fishing, loved it. Then i went salt water fishing and have been "hooked" ever since. but again, there are a couple of rules for fishing also. Beer, got to be having us a few cold ones if we are gonna be fishing. The morning rule gets exception with fishing. i will wake up early to go fishing as long as you understand that i may take a nap while fishing. Time, i will fish all day - as long as we are drinking beers and naps are available.

About 4 or 5 months ago i discovered hog hunting and i am hooked guys. I enjoy this more than anything i have ever hunted. We normally start around 8ish, so you dont have to wake up to early, and when we get there we hang out and drink some coffee and bullshit. then we let dogs out and the dogs go running through the woods trying to find a track. Mean while i beginning to eat the biscuits i bought at the store i picked up my coffee at. So we wait till the dogs figure out what they are going to do and then they "get on a track" and start raising all kind of hell. so at this point we go running into the woods with pit bulls and "catch" the hog. then stab it. then get a four wheeler and drag it out. put it on the tail gate and then do it again, but of course when it gets close to lunch we take a long lunch break. I am actually considering raising a couple of bay dogs myself. when the dogs dont get on a track then we ride around on dirt roads until we see some fresh signs. You dont have to be decked out in camo and it dont matter what you smell like.

As for this past weekend, we only got a little baby pig but still had fun.

So now you guys know what kind of hunting i do, and dont do, and what kind of fishing i love, and like.
