Southern Fried as AD

Southern Fried just got hired on as the hiring firm to help Miami hire its next Football coach.  Lets get started on making our short list.

To start with I would like for us to just brain storm and throw out names and then we can sort through them and prioritize them.

Jon Gruden is out.  So don’t mention his name.  Lets here some “obtainable” names.

After about 19 comments

1 Dan Mullen

2 Mike Leach

Kyle Whittingham, Mushchamp,Gus Malzhan, Georgie O’Leary, Dana Holgorsen, Randy Edsall,

The main reason you can’t find what Miami coaches make is because it is a private school.  I am under the impression that the school only pays a very VERY small portion of the salary and the boosters take care of the rest with “fund raisers”

  1. Chizz? Malzhan? Both suck though, probably wouldn't work.

  2. well put 6-6. Hey starett did AU and UGAy play yet? Now can that be the end of it or do you want to keep getting off topic?

  4. Good that you won 1 out of 5 Pepper. Keep bragging though, lol.

  5. Nice lol. When do you get your brace off. Life must be tough for a 14 year old girl on a sports blog, and no OMG is not a good reply to that.

  6. OK Joe, if you want my honest opinion, I think Mike Leach would be a great hire, thing is, I heard on the radio that they would not hire a coach with "baggage" and Mike Leach was named, along with Butch Davis and a few others. Mullen is high on their radar. Problem is Miami is just a stepping stone job, they aren't gonna attract the best of the best b/c they don't have the bank accound to do so. So if they won't take a guy with baggage, then they are gonna have to go out on a limb. And whoever they select, they'll only be their for 5 years or so if they are successful.

  7. I think with the atheletes that Mullen would get in Miami and the chance to take them away from Meyer would be to much for him to resist

  8. Pepper, you are the only one on this blog who thinks of 14 year old girls. At the Southern Fried Tailgate, would you be offended if I continually rest my beer on your head?

  10. GREG SCHIANO, RUTGERS: He might reconsider the job know, after losing his luster in New Jersey.

  11. I think Schiano would be a decent hire. he makes the list

  12. question for Jon. I am not doubting you just curious I always as long as Coker stayed there he got the going rate and Miami paid good, couldn't find what he made. Do you know?

  13. Not sure what he made. Just heard guys talking on the radio yesterday about it. I'm sure that was part of the reason Davis and Erickson followed the Jimmy Johnson mold and bolted to the $$$$ in the NFL. Or maybe they wanted to just coach in pro's not sure

  14. I don't think Mullen would leave MSU just yet. I actually think he has too much class/loyalty to leave this early on them. He gives them 5 years.

Personally I'd roll the dice on Leach, but here are some other names I'd consider.

    George O'Leary

    Dana Holgremson(sp?)

Major Applewhite(Great pedigree/could be cheap hire)

Jimmy Johnson(would he come back Bill Snyder style since he's already in South Beach just to straighten out the mess or was he too dirty)

Gus(think he has one more yr as an OC)

Randy Edsall(would be a great hire)

    I'll keep thinking...

  15. One more if he's not dead. Seriously he was sick last I heard.......Hal "By God" Mumme.

Talk about innovative. Leach and Dana Holgremson are disciples.

  16. I would love for them to hire Mullen so that Mike Leach could come to MSU.Just imagine Les Miles and Mike Leach in the SEC, their would never be a dull moment.
