SEC Championship

Alright Boys.  The SEC Championship is tomorrow.  (Reese, stop reading right now)  One of the things that separates the SEC from all other conferences is the loyalty.  You never hear at bowl games any body chanting “Big 10!.. Big 10!”  But it almost seems standard after a SEC team rolls over somebody to not hear chants of the school but chants for the Conference.   We are elite and we know it, so I guess we shouldn’t take offense when we are called elitist.. because we are.   We have the toughest teams.  The the craziest fans.  The biggest and fastest athletes.  We spend the most money on our coaches.  It is our religion.   And we are proud of it.

The reason a 1 loss SEC team is always the highest ranked team is because when an SEC team plays for it all… they win.  Our reputation as the best conference helps all of us.   We have the biggest TV contracts and we get the most bowl bids and we win the most bowls.   That money is divided up amongst all of us making us the richest Conference.   Hell, we have conferences realigning themselves just to try and compete with us.

This year is no different that the last 4 years.  Once again we have a team that is 1 game away from going to the National Title.  All they have to do is to get by one of the most successful coaches in all of college football, AGAIN.  Going through the toughest conference isn’t good enough for us.  We have finish it out on a neutral field just make sure.

If Auburn wins out, do you guys understand what this means?  Do yall have any idea of how this completely cements the fact that College football almost has to put an SEC team in the title game no matter who it is?  We will have 5 National Titles in a row coming from 4 different schools.  Go back and find the last conference to have 4 different schools to even play in the title game, let alone win it, in a 30 year span, let alone a 5 year span.  Hell, find 4 schools in the last 50 years.

The SEC dominates College football period.   Hopefully next year it will be Georgia.  But this year it is Auburn, since our regular season is over I will have 1 more hope for the SEC.  And that is for the Auburn Tigers to represent us Glendale and keep the crystal football in the Deep South where it belongs.

I you are choosing to hate on a school because of their fans base.. then why are you choosing to be more like their fan base?

  1. Thanks Joe for a great post. I must say the video was my favorite part, and not because of what it contained but knowing that BP will have chill bumps watching it. War Eagle and thanks again Saban's TEAM.

  2. Very good post Joseph. Not going to waste my time watching the video, but I appreciate ALee validating what I said earlier this week....the Alabama TEAM lost....not Saban himself. And while I agree with your post, I will never root for Auburn. I might not be against them for the rest of the season, but you can bet your ass that I will not be screaming "War Tiger" or "Go Eagles" anytime in the near future. It is in my blood to hate Auburn just like it is in ALee and Peppers blood to hate Alabame. SO.....go SEC.

  3. I've never gotten the whole conference love, but there again I wouldn't understand coming from a shitty conference. I hate the other teams in the ACC. But you slap dicks make me pull for them just so I don't have to hear SEC, SEC, SEC. Serios question: When did the SEC chant start? Has it only been the past 10 or so years or has it been going on for ever? I don't recall it being chanted as a child, but i may not be remebering correctly. Also, does each team send out some sort of memo reminding everyone to root for the SEC and talk it up year round?

  4. I normally pull for the SEC in all bowl games, but I must admit, I haven't decided if I will be pulling for Auburn in the title game yet. Nick Fairley ruined that for me personally. I have always pulled for the SEC, and this year I don't know if I'll be a War Eagle (or Tiger or whatever they go by) or a Duck. Not that anyone cares or should care, just my thoughts. I must also say my opinion on Cam Newton has changed over the last part of the season. I thought the guy was a good kid (and maybe he is) but I'm tired of him. It started with the UGA game when he would lay on the ground like he was hurt after every play in the fourth quarter, then get up smiling. He did the same thing in the Bama game. But the thing that made me turn on him entirely was Saturday night when he allowed his teammates to put him on their shoulders and carry him onto the field after the game. Last time I checked Cam, its a team game. And yes you are the best player on the field every Saturday, but don't act like it and pay a little more respect to your teammates, b/c without them, you'd be nothing. What were some you AU fans thoughts when that happened? Did you agree with that?

  5. please please please do not pull for Auburn to win the National Championship game, we are no longer taking applications for whinny UGAy fans with an axe to grind. After all Fairley did "personally" hurt your feelings on a late hit call right? Glad to know you and Murray have such a strong bond, did he call you after the game and talk about it. However I do agree with you on Cam, what a complete ass hole! Can you believe his team came up to him and told him to get on their shoulders and he said yes. What a punk who the fuck does he think is? Rudy? That was an Auburn fans thoughts on what happened and yes I did agree with it.

  6. Pepper go back to grade school and work on reading comprehension. Glad to know you think Cam is worthy of being carried off the field. Truthfully, I've always pulled for Auburn other than when they played for UGA I guess b/c Ben played there. I would have liked to have seen what he would have done if his lineman tried to carry him off the field in Athens after he torched UGA for 400+. He had an amazing game and I feel confident he would have politely declined the invitation. But that's just my opinion.

  7. I'm supper busy but I did want to give my 2 cents. I have disagreed with John on Fairley and still do. And here I will disagree (to an extent) The carrying off the field, in my mind, is only ONLY acceptable in a National Title game and thats it (exceptions only being a guy that was hurt really really bad or some crazy event like Rudy). I do feel that the team has rallied around Cam here and truly believe in him. But I do not agree with carrying him off the field in a Conference game.

  8. the reason i put "to an extent" is that I agree that it shouldn't happen in a Conference game but what I failed to mention in the previous comment is that I also believe that it is 100% the teams choice. And I'm just guessing, it was probably the OLine carrying him.

  9. Also, John, I really hope that by the time the game comes around you will have found it in yourself to pull for Auburn. I know that who we pull for doesn't make 2 shits but to me it tells us alot about what kind of football fans we are. We have several people on this blog (i dont have to mention names) that choose to vocally pull against schools that I consider "local" but I always thought you were not in that group.

  10. It was Joe. He said after the game that he was shocked and honored when Ziemba asked him to get up on their shoulders, and stated he nor the team would not be where they are right now without them. John I think it is impossible to say whether you or Ben in that situation would have looked at your senior left tackle and said "no thanks I'll pass".

  11. Two quick points:

A few years back everyone - and I mean EVERYONE - was tired of hearing about Tim Tebow. The announcers, the papers, the magazines, etc. just couldn't get enough of him and it annoyed the shit out of everyone. I think that is where people are with Cam Newton now. He is without a doubt the best player in CFB, but it is a team sport and without the other starters he wouldn't have this success. When you are on top, people tend to hate.

Second, I am sick and tired of Joseph Schell telling people how to be fans. Just because you are the moderator of this blog doesn't give you the right to tell anyone how they should feel or where there allegiances should lie when it comes to football. If I want to say "Go Oregon", it is my god given right. Remember, we are all grown ass men and reserve the right to have our own opinions. There is no doubt in my mind that I am one of the people that you feel pulls against local teams.

Just my $.02 for the day.

  12. Carrying players off the field is ridiculous. You carry coaches off the field. The only exception is when a player does something miraculous to win a game. Something like a FG kicker kicking a 65 yard field goal when his team trails by 1-2 points for the national title. Or maybe a feel good story who does something to effect the game. Like when our high school team carried off our kicker after he kicked or 30 or so yard FG to beat Cedar Shoals. The kicker had cerebal palsy and still booted the game winner to keep an undefeated season intact. That is the kind of shit you get carried off the field for.

  13. 1st. I said to John that I "hope" that he would do something so that I would see him in a certain way as a fan. Never once did I see what he "should" do or "how" he should do it. Big fucking difference Pulley. BIG! Just as you have the right to pull against a team in your home state I have the right to view people that do that. But NEVER once have I ever told someone what I think they SHOULD do.

2nd. Yes, I was absolutely talking about you and Alee. as bad as you two hate each other I think its almost comical that yall act just a like.

  14. And Schell, you and Pepper can GFY!

  15. Miraculous like accouting for 6 touchdowns in an SEC championship game. It is hillarious you are so irate about this. Stating that it is a team sport and then bashing a team for wanting to carry one their own players off the field is also hillarious. You guys beat us last year. Did you hear me whining about everything you guys did the rest of the season? No. People like you are the reason everyone hates UGAy fans.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Also, I want to make it clear that I don't think any less of the stupid fans like you pulley. you could even make the argument that yall are more passionate than I am because of your deep hatred for your in state rival. But to make myself perfectly clear on my reasoning is that when an SEC team wins the Title then the following year when a different SEC team has 1 loss, they are the highest ranked team and has a chance to play for it all also. As a Georgia fan I understand the chances of us going undefeated are rare based on our history. so i plan accordingly.

  17. People like me are the reason everyone hates UGAy fans. Great job Pepper, you are cool. Fact of the matter is you guys are #1 in the nation receiving national attention. That in it of itself brings more attention to what your team does for the remainder of the year. I doubt many people remember much about UGA's team last year, b/c they were mediocre, just like this year. Think things out before you post please, you are really irritating the blog audience with your simple mind.

  18. That has nothing to do with anything I just said. I will try again. You said that "Cam last time I checked it was a team game" and that is what made you turn on him completely. Shouldn't a team should be allowed to carry around they want to. If you hate Cam because he is good that is fine. That is why people hate the Yankees, the Lakers and Tiger Woods but don't rationalize it with bullshit.

  19. Joseph, Joseph, Joseph.....let me make it clear that I don't hate anyone on this blog. We are all entitled to our opinions and have the right to express them. The fact that all of us are so opinionated is what makes this place so great. I could make a post that says "the sky is so blue in Dallas" and someone would challenge me, call me a "stupid fan", say that Alabama is a bunch of inbred fucks, etc. This blog makes you check, recheck & double check your statements because you know you will get blown up if you are wrong.

  20. i think i do recall you, pepper, saying that you hated tiger because he disrespected the game of golf and its fans not because he is great... that last comment contradicts your reasoning your hatred for Tiger.

    ReplyDelete
  21. No, I don't hate the guy because he is good. I have stated several times that I think as far as playing the game, he's the best player on the field every Saturday. My problem with him is the way he acts when he's not on the field. It's like he is above the team at times. And my point was he should have never let his teammates carry him off the field. A little humble pie would do him some good.

  22. Pepper, I truly believe that most people are just sick of Cam Newton.....period. Maybe there isn't a justifiable reason to not like him or maybe there are millions of reasons. Me personally, I am just sick of hearing about him all the time. It was no different with Tebow. After a while, it just gets old. This isn't true for Auburn fans because he plays for their team, he IS the best player in CFB and so far there has been little - if anything - that anyone can do to stop him. I said before that I think he is a cocky ass punk, but that is just my opinion.
