Best of NFL

since we struggled a little bit on the previous question of Top 5 of any sport – lets see if its a little more fun to compare with in the same sport.

Before we get into who is #1 and who is #5 – lets figure out who is top 5.

rice

Jerry Rice – I really don’t think that we will have anybody dispute that Rice should be on the list and probably be in the #1 spot.

 joe_montana

Joe Montana – Remember we are talking since the 80’s and I’m not sure that we have had a QB like Joe since then.

payton

Walter Payton – pretty much broke every RB record that mattered.

Barry-Sanders-alternate

Barry Sanders – to me, Barry Sanders was the best RB to every play the game

taylorlawrence21

Lawrence Taylor – I think LT had as big of impact on the way the game is played today as any single player in History.

reggie-white_03

Reggie White – The most dominate Defensive lineman that I remember

lott-fbx

Ronnie Lott – Would lose money playing in the NFL today.  He would be fined more than he made.  Hardest hitting DB that I know of.  Ed Reed pales in comparison to this guy

ray_lewis0943

Ray Lewis – I can’t think of another time that a LB won the super bowl.  All season long, Ray Lewis was, BY FAR! the Most Valuable Player on his super bowl winning Ravens.

does anyone have someone else that they feel deserves to be in the Top 5?  I have 8 here for the argument – who else belongs on the list before we dispute this.

  1. If Jerry Rice is in their for breaking every receiving record then Brett Farve should be in there for breaking every QB record.

  2. John Elway deserves mention. Don't think I would put Ronnie Lott above Deion Sanders. I know Lott played Safety, but there's only gonna be one DB if any, and Deion was a better player. Derrick Thomas should probably be listed as one of the best even though his life was cut short.

  3. love the john elway mention. and deon does need some love but do you put him above ronnie? and derrick thomas was great but i would lean ray lewis over him.

  4. I think Pat Tillman hit harder than Lott. Maybe that is just a sentimental vote, but he was a bad ass regardless. No way he is in the top 5 list though.

  5. Noone hit harder than Chuck Cecil but that is beside the point.

  6. However, Lott did chop a piece of his finger off just to finish a game.

  7. Best I've seen since 1980 as far as talent in the NFL, not necessarily accomplishments goes like this:

RB= Bo and Barry Sanders tied

WR= Rice and Chris Carter(Best hands and feet I've ever seen)

QB:Talent goes to Marino and Elway, but I'd start a team with Montana. He didn't have the canon, but he invented the wonderlic test.

TE: Winslow Sr. for catching, Bavaro for all around.

O Linemen: Go with any of the hawgs from the 80's redskins.

    On to defense:

DL: Minister of defense and Dexter Manley as interior type guys.

LB's: D Thomas, Gastenaeu, and LT

    CB's: Prime Time hands down

S: Lott, Ed Reed, and Palamalu

I may edit as my memory starts jogging.
