Richt security

Brad and I were chatting (i know, sounds gay – the really bad part is now we video chat which is really gay) the other day when Georgia got their new AD - about what the new guy means for Richt’s security.

Brad:  I think it puts more pressure on him(Richt) and he has to win the east or at least win 10 in the next two years.

me: next 2 years yes. this year, no.

Brad: I still think he has to win 8 this year which shouldn't be that hard but if he doesn't I think the new AD flexes his muscles and everyone will listen to him because he is from the mighty Florida regime.

me: 6 wins MAY get him fired. 7 and up and he is safe

Brad: I disagree go read what UGA fans are writing about this new AD, even though I like this, I think a lot of people are thinking that reign of UF is over. I think if Richt loses to UF the next two years he is gone unless he wins the SEC with a loss to UF.

So instead of setting a over/under for GA this year I wanted to set one for Richt’s job.  What is the magic number Richt needs to have a job with the Dawgs next year and over the next 2 years.  I think 5 1/2 is the number this year.  If Richt wins 6 he keeps his job but his seat is VERY hot going into next year.  Next year is a little different to handicap because we don’t know how he will be entering next year.   So here is my over/unders based on wins this year.. 6, 7, and 8 wins this year then next year the total is 8 1/2.  9 wins and better this year and we are back like we are this year and he isn’t even on the hot seat so the total would be around 5 1/2 again.

your thoughts?

  1. First of all, the Dawg nation would be stupid to fire Richt. I've always felt like he needed to be more hands on with the offense kinda like my boy PJ. Hate to use a PJ related analogy, but when PJ came back to GSU to be head coach he was walking around the field just watching over the practice. I think they had gone 1-1 the first 2 games and Erk "The Bald Eagle" comes up to him and says "son what are you doing?". PJ said "Being the head coach". Erk came back with "get your ass over there doing what you do best". PJ listened to Erk and the rest is history.

Anyway, until Richt gets back to play calling duties his seat will remain hot. I don't care what ya'll say, Bobo sucks as a play caller. Richt was the father of one of the best offenses in football history.....the 90's FSU offenses.

Richt will be ok this year with 5 wins but will have no excuse next year if they don't win at least 10 with a win over UF. I hate UGA but have always thought CMR was a good coach. He's not a good CEO of a team. Question for the dawgs on here, who was calling plays when UGA was winning with David Green? I really don't know.

  2. i want to say toward the end of 06 season is when Bobo "officially" took over. Im sure Starrett can tell us. I do disagree with you on the CEO/play calling. I feel Richt is better as the CEO - I think Bobo is doing a GREAT job. Last year Ga offense was ranked 1st in the SEC in SEC games, tied with Arkansas.

  3. What teams/offenses were better, the Green teams or the Stafford teams with Bobo calling the plays?

  4. i understand where you are coming from but i dont think its that easy just to compare teams. bobo hasnt had the best of luck with O- line injuries. I am a firm believer in the Head Coach NOT! being the play caller. I think PJ is an exception because he only has 5 total plays to call from.

  5. I favor the offensive coordinator calling plays over the head coach. Bobo is a bit of a question mark to me. I'll know more at the end of this season on whether I'd like Richt to take back over the play calling duties. Bobo has 10 returning starters and a redshirt freshman QB who was a phenom in high school to work with. I look for UGA to run the ball much more this year and use that to set up play action. With the best WR in the country, the offense should be good enough to win all of their games (not saying they are going undefeated). As far as Richt's security, the firing of Slick Willie and half of the defensive assistants bought him a minimum of two years. 2011 will be a very important year for Richt and his legacy at UGAy (get it? gay, get it?).

  6. that wasnt an insult man. i respect the shit out of PJ and you know that better than anyone - but you have to admit that PJ doesnt have a TON of plays man. calm down little booger

  7. He has a ton of plays. Maybe not as many as Saint Richt, but GT runs more plays than people think. I thought the same thing before PJ came to Tech. I'll give it to you. His bread and butter play aka the triple can be run out of tons different formations and totally different blocking schemes. That's why he's the master of half time and on the fly adjustments.

  8. I like Mark Richt as a person I have met him and he is a great guy I even think he is a good coach. But he has barley expanded upon what Jim Donnan built at UGAy ( get it?) he won on SEC title with Donnans players and one with his own. My point is I think can win a national championship as a head coach but not at UGA I think he has missed his window just like Tubberville did at AU.

  9. Reese. I do not dislike GT but I hate the triple option. It is bad for your conference and for your team. You can't win a bowl game much less a national championship if someone has a month to prepare. Ask Tom Osborn that is why he retired and he has 4 National Chamoionships at Nebraska not GSU. Look at Nebraska 6 national championships and ranked in the top 5 almost every year in the 90s and when they stopped running the option it took them 4 years to recover to a good football team and just now getting back to contenders 8 years later and that was a team continually got the best players in the nation, can you imagine how long it will take Tech. The bottom line is one day PJ will get fired and because of this option experiment your team will be set back at LEAST 5 years. For your sake I hope he at least wins a BCS bowl first.

  10. I think that Richt is on the hot seat and justifiably so. He has done less with more talent and eventually that is going to be his demise. Look at UGA's fan base. They expect to win NC's and tell anyone/everyone every spring that this is the year of the Dawg and every year they are left utterly disappointed. Richt has had a good run and, in my opinion, brought UGA back to national prominence but just never quite delivered the big win when it was needed. I think that anything less than 8 wins and he is gone.

And to John S....I didn't get married because my wife was pregnant. So you didn't predict shit. But let me drop this knowledge on you....at the end of the CFB season you will be left holding your prick in your hand wondering what the hell happened to your beloved UGA....again.

  11. Pulley in John's defense I usually do my best wondering with my prick in my hand.

  12. Maybe Tech can hire Chan Gailey again and get them back to winning some fucking games. Pepper, you obviously don't realize what Tech has, for the most part, been the last 40+ years, so let me tell you.

Yeah Boss Ross came in after Bill Curry('87) and won a Championship. Bill Lewis took over after Ross went to greener pastures and sucked balls worse than Curry did and destoyed the program. O'Leary brought it back with the help of Ralph Freidgen and the worst defensive mind in college football aka Ted Roof. The Fridge left and took his offense with him. "O'Liar" saw his window closing at jumped at the opportunity to go to Touchdown Jesus. Then comes Chan. Those were miserable years. Going to the Smurf Turf and getting the shit kicked out of you by Fresno St and Utah every other year sucks. Trust me.

So overall I'll take PJ and his option all day long. GT will never be able to recruit UGA/Auburn/UF/Bama type players and beat them in a pro style offense. Just not going to happen. I'm the most optimistic I've been about GT football since 1990 and that's including the Little Joe years. PJ is building a monster and I'm on the wagon.

Another thing, I don't think there is another coach in the country that does more with less than good ole PJ.
