Friday Farts

Tiger just sucks.  He is in a field of 81 players and he is tied for 70th.  Since when was Tiger completely irrelevant in golf?  It would be one thing if he just had a bad day but his play this year is horrible.  But does this mean anything?  His positions this year in Tourneys is 4, mc, wd, 19, 4, 46, 23, and 70 right now after 1st rd – BUT, and I’m counting on you guys that wear the plaid shorts with the white belts with your visor with a little hair coming down in front of your face that call yourselves golfers (i call you assholes) I need a little help here.  He has played in 7 Tourneys not including the one he is in currently and 3 of those were majors.  Out of the 3 majors he has finished 4 (masters), 4 (us open), and 23 (british open).  When you look at just the majors he don’t look to shaby.  My question is this, Is Tiger using the other tourneys to work on something or change something or does he just not take them nearly a serious.  I mean golf isn’t like any other sport.  Tiger could suck balls for the rest of the year and be invited to play at all the Majors next year.

Ran across a story this morning titled, “5 Most underrated teams heading into the college football Season.”  The picture with the story was of the U and several of us here on Southern Fried have predicted a good season for Miami.  Miami, the author predicts, will win 10 games this year and could run the table.  Georgia Bulldogs (i did not know they were on the list and i would have posted this story regardless but yes, i was happy to see them) biggest question is Aaron Murray and the Defense but he does have Georgia as a sleeper this year.  Florida Gators were on the list and I’m not sure how they can be under rated… I mean, I’m expecting them to be in the National Title hunt even with all of the losses.  Georgia Tech was another team on the list with mentions of Anthony Allen having a bigger role now that Dwyer is gone and like Georgia the D is one of the biggest concerns.  Wisconsin was the last team  this guy claims that the Wisc/Ohio St game on Oct 16th will be for the Big 10 title. (could you imagine an October game that would decide the SEC?  That normally happens in December and nobody has a clue until then who will win it)

60 year old lady, Diana Nyad, will attempt to swim from Cuba to Miami…  Why?  I don’t like getting past my knees in the gulf.  I don’t have a clue why someone would do this.  She will have an electronic device that will keep sharks away from her, she hopes.

  1. Joe as I know you have been attempting to play a little golf lately and I imagine you know how hard it is. The difference between pros and regular guys in any sport is the amount of work they put into it and the ability to focus on their sport and nothing else. I am sure there are a lot of college football players who had the talent to get drafted but just didn't have the work ethic or the mental fortitude. Same with golf, even if you have the talent you have to put the work. Two polar opposite examples are Tiger Woods and Freddy Couples. Now I am not saying Tiger is not talented he obviously is, but the main reason he was the kind of golfer he was because of the amount of practice, he was the hardest working player on the tour and it showed. Then you have Freddy, I have actually played a round of golf with one of Freddy's good friends Peter Jacobson and he told me " If Freddy practiced AT ALL he would easily be in the top 3 in the world every year, and if he practiced as much as Tiger he might win every tournament he plays in". Now I realize that seems to be somewhat of an exaggeration but that is coming from a professional who competed against both numerous times. What you have to understand is golf is a game of discipline, you don't have a curfew, you don't get fined for not going to practice, and is up to you how much work you put in. So I guess what I am saying is Tiger has no one to blame but himself, he says he has to be with his kids more and can't practice all the time which I commend (had he not cheated on his wife 16 times she might be there to watch them while he practices) him on. I think Tiger is just like the rest of the golfers in the world. He realized that there are more important things in the world than being the best ever, if it happens it happens.

  2. I agree with Brad 100% on this. Joe, I feel that I should point out that Tigers worst scores would be great scores for most - if not all - average golfers. I would love to shoot 75 and be able to say that it was a horrible round. Unfortunately, I have only broken 80 once in my life and more times than not, I am in the mid 80's. In my opinion, what set Tiger apart from everyone was his mental toughness. He just had the ability to take a round where he was spraying the ball all over the course and somehow shoot under par. I think that his head is just too messed up right now. He did all of this to himself and I don't really feel sorry for him, but imagine if you made some of these same mistakes and had to be reminded of them every time you showed up to "work". Wouldn't you get pretty worn down from answering the same questions over & over again? Like I said, he did it to himself, but I think it is time for the general public and the media to move on. He has clearly taken a beating - mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, professionally, etc - and EVERYONE deserves a second chance. My opinion of him has changed drastically in the last year, but he is human and everyone makes mistakes.

In other news, Alabama was ranked #1 in the coaches preseason poll. It doesn't mean a thing but as a Tide fan it's very nice. I am very interested to see how the defense is going to be this year. Replacing McClain will be hard enough, but they lost just about all of their starters. For what its worth, Georgia should never be on the underrated list. According to their fans they will win the title every year. Too bad all of that talk is normally around spring time and fades after week 2.

As for this lady swimming to Miami....after seeing shark week I get nervous getting into the pool. She must have been living under a rock!

    GFY. It's Friday....

  3. Tiger's a basket case on the course. Welcome to my world Eldrick. He needs to switch professions and go into the porn industry.

I'm with you on Couples having the most talent Brad. Too bad his back F'd him out of tons of majors in the 90's.

I think Da U is right where they should be. 9 or 10 wins this year. The media wants them to be back in the national title pic so bad they can't stand it. FSU will get there before the canes do. By the way, GT will be a better team than they were last year.

That lady is crazy. She may be the first person to get breached by a Tiger shark. $50 says she quits or gets eaten by a bull/tiger/white tip before she gets out of Cuban waters.
