from Starrett to Pulley

Fact check....

"Bama has the #1 rated class coming in"....
By what service? Not Scout, not rivals, not ESPN. Bamarecruitinginsiderolltideroll? maybe?

Referencing Kirby Smart...what do you think he's going to say? He may or may not leave to come to UGA but here are the facts, UGA has not named a coordinator, is it maybe b/c their #1 target has not coached his final game? If UGA were targeting someone besides Kirby, I think we'd have an announcement by now. We know Muschamp isn't in the picture and I would guess that we aren't looking at Central Michigan or Troy assistants, so I'll assume we are still pursuing Kirby. "Why the hell would he do that?" Well lets think about it logically, first of all he played at UGA. Most people form relationships at college and tend to migrate back to that area if possible. He is good friends with Mike Bobo whom he played with which would mean he and a good friend are coordinators for a traditional SEC power. He would have TOTAL control of the defense. Does he have that at Bama - don't thinks so as Saban is a defensive guy. He'll name two of his own assistants. Like I said, whether or not he comes, I don't know. But for Bama fans to act like its nonsense further proves your original point about their arrogance Joe. No offense to you personally BP, just calling it like I see it.

also, if you check ESPN here you will find a story written just today about Kirby to Ga.. so i guess im the not the only person talking about it.

  1. I stand corrected. Maybe my memory is failing me, but I recall that ESPN had Bamas recruiting class ranked number 1. Guess I was wrong. I am man enough to accept it.

Now on to this Kirby Smart thing....I understand his connection to UGA, but he has just as long a connection to Saban. Plus, the players that he will coach at Georgia can't hold the jock straps of the guys at Alabama. As for arrogance, see my earlier comment about what happens when spring rolls around every year. Face it, when it comes to football, there just isn't much comparison between these two schools.

  2. Can't hold the jock straps ey? Well let's examine this...
Recruiting class rankings per scout.com for the previous four years
2009: (This year's true freshman class)
    Alabama - #2
    UGA - #4
    2008:
    Alabama #1
    UGA #5
    2007:
    UGA #17
    Alabama #22
    2006:
    UGA #4
    Alabama #18

Now, after looking at those numbers, do you still feel the PLAYERS at Alabama are that much better than UGA's PLAYERS. If so, I know a good doctor and I'll refer you to him. So what does this mean? It means Alabama has superior coaching to UGA plain and simple. Saban has proved me wrong as I was one to doubt how good he actually is. Now I have no problem saying he is the best coach in the country, bar none. But from a pure talent perspective, Georgia's athletes are just as good if not better than Alabamas. Let's not forget Bama fans when you start talking about how good you are and how much better your program is when it comes to football than UGA's, you are on a two year high. Georgia's been doing it all decade long. No we haven't won it all, but we've been playing for SEC crowns and finishing in the Top 10 for most years.

  3. Read this regarding Kirby Smart that was published today. It sure makes me think he may be headed to Athens once the final game has been decided......

    From AthensOnline.com

Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart addressed the Georgia coordinator opening on Tuesday in California prior to Thursday's BCS title game.

Here's what Gentry Estes of the Mobile (Ala.) Press-Register reported:

Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart was asked Tuesday if it was tough to say no to Georgia coach Mark Richt, who reportedly had targeted him to return to his alma mater as the Bulldogs' defensive coordinator.

"I really haven't talked to Mark much," Smart said. "To say I said no to Mark, he has not offered me anything. That's not really accurate. To be honest, with this game coming up, I haven't even thought about it."

Richt still hasn't filled that position. Would Smart say that he's returning to Alabama next season?

"You don't ever know what's going to happen, but I certainly am excited about the opportunity to be back at Alabama," Smart said. "We've got a lot of good players coming back."

  4. Holy Shit!! I just spit water all over my computer screen. Two year high?? Are you effing kidding me?? The "drought" that Bama went trough from basically 1997 - 2007 isn't shit compared to the century long drought that Georgia has been living in. And this directly relates to another part of your post....YES the players at Alabama are that much better. Your stats just proved that point. The classes have been about the same, but UGAy still ends up empty handed. I will admit that Georgia has had great recruiting classes over the past few years, but that talent hasn't led to anything worth talking about. You guys still get pasted on the reg by Florida; got absolutely dismantled last year by an upstart Alabama team; and consistently play down to inferior teams. Your final sentence says it all. At Georgia it is acceptable to just play for SEC titles and finish in the top ten MOST of the time. That doesn't fly at Alabama. The fans expect to compete for national titles year in and year out. If that doesn't happen, fire the coach and bring someone in that will get it done.

  5. And one more thing....that article doesn't prove anything. I only started in on the Kirby Smart thing to mess with Joe. I hope he doesn't leave, but who really knows. Coaching is all about money now so if UGA throws enough cash his way then he will most likely go. It will be disappointing but he's gotta do what he's gotta do.

Damn, where has all this back and forth been all year??

  6. Oh here we go again, "our history is better than your history". Gotta love a Bama fan. Anyway, I'll just include modern history in this post which I'd say starts with the 1980's. Winning % by school for the decade. Only top ten schools are ranked, so let's see what the info tells us....
    1980s:
    UGA is #7 with a winning % of .756 (88-27-4)
ALA is ?, like I said, only the Top 10 is shown.
    1990s:
UGA is ?, not in top 10
ALA is ?, not in top 10, we'll give Bama the edge for the national title.
    2000s:
    UGA is #9 with a winning % of .760 (98-31)
ALA is ?, sorry, only top 10 are shown.

But, let's hear it, Bear Bryant won how many titles? LOL.

  7. also, no other team in the Nation has a longer 8 plus game win streak than Georgia. it was 1997 the last time the Dawgs won less than 8 games. AND as for the Bear, you think Mike Leach is a freak... Mr. Bryant was nothing more than an alcoholic. basically he would be the modern day howard schnellenberger... wait a minute. Didnt Schnellenberger coach under the bear?

  8. No, not gonna take the bait and get into a "history" lesson. Both of you gentlemen know where that will go. John, you completely ignored most of what I said and only chose to retort the items that worked in your favor. And you are right, Bear did win titles, but I didn't mention that. My post was directed at your previous post which was mainly about recruiting and whether or not I thought Bamas players are that much better. Did you miss all of that?

Joe, congrats on all your eight win seasons. You must be looking forward to another year at the Independence Bowl. And for what its worth, I agree with you about the kid from Texas Tech. He is just a crybaby with a famous parent. You better watch your mouth talking about Bear Bryant.......

  9. The main reason I ignored the recruiting portion of your post is because you actually proved my point. You admit that UGA's recruiting classes have been good. Therefore the talent is there. What does that mean? Read my post again, and try and make sense of what you are writing in your post. I said that UGA has the PLAYERS and TALENT on campus, but they are not being COACHED up the way Bama has coached their players up. Bama's coaches are better, I concede that fact, but the talent of Alabama's players is no better than the talent of UGA's players, that I assure you. Do an average rating over four years, UGA's recruiting class is rated #7.5 and Bama is rated #10.75. Hopefully the point of my post here can hit home. :)
