Well after a few emails from the ignoramous that is Brad Culpepper, I think I will reflect a little on this college football season.
What we learned:
1. Auburn had a great season. They fielded the best college football player in the land. He made the infamous Tim Tebow look second rate. We also know that a lot of fishy things went on with his recruitment. I hope AU wins the title (for personal financial gain only). And Cam letting his teammates carry him off the field was pathetic btw.
2. Alabama is a very good team. They didn't win it all, but by the way they played in their bowl game, I don't think anyone would be happy to be facing them. Too bad Alabama and Stanford didn't play in the Orange b/c I think that would have been a hell of a game.
3. Jim Harbaugh is one hell of a coach. Stanford looked like a well oiled machine last night. He coaching players with less talent than a 6-7 UGA team, and makes them look unbeatable. Hey Jim, how do you like warm weather? Maybe a lake house on Lake Hartwell and the head coaching job in Athens?
4. Here is what I really don't want to talk about. UGA is a program that is really failing right now. We continue to recruit top talent and do nothing with it. Since we ended the 2007 year ranked #2 and started 2008 as preseason #1 the program has been on a steady decline. How can you lose 3 games with Stafford (#1 pick in NFL draft), Moreno (1st round draft choice), Massaquoi (early 2nd rounder I think), AJ Green (top WR in the country and future top 5 pick). All of these guys start in the NFL (besides Green), and we lose 3 games? Since then, we have won 8 games and 6 games ending with a losing record. The bowl performance was attrocious. It looked as though no one even cared. So Pepper, you asked what I thought of UCF beating us, yes it was horrible, embarrasing and many other things you failed to name. Its not a lot of fun to be a UGA fan right now, but things will get better, hopefully sooner than later. Mark Richt will be on the hottest seat in the country next year and will need a 9 win season at a minimum to keep his job. He knows this. Change is coming. We'll see if he knows what changes will result in better performance.
On a side note, did anyone notice Andrew Luck being carried off the field last night? I didn't.

I think it will be a close game proabably 7 points but I think we have the ability to blow them out and I am sure they can do that to us. Oregon will be tested like never before on the offensive and defensive fronts.
ReplyDeleteAlabama would have killed Stanford VT is ranked 59th against the run and The Cardinal has to run to set up play action
I think Harbaugh would be smart to take another college job, he could recruit the best QBs in the country after this year he would be praised at any school he went to, in the NFL he would simply be a rookie head coach. Just don't think he has enough experience yet.
For me personally I don't like Mark Richt's situation if I am a UGA fan. From a non UGA fan's perspective (and you can ask Joe I AM a CMR fan) if my coach has to win 9 or 10 games next year to keep his job then why not go ahead and fire him. When Tubberville got fired I thought it was a year early and I wasn't happy about it but I understood it. It is like when Belichik gets rid of a player a year too early it is better to that than wait a year too late. That being said I do think Mark Richt is a great guy and great recruiter and I would like to think he is a good coach but I think he has a little Ron Zook in him he has been equal over the past years with with LSU, USC, Texas, Alabama, Florida, and Ohio St. in recruiting but all those teams have a crystal trophy and CMR doesn't, and don't know if it his fault or he picks bad assistants but why chance it another year when it could seriously affect your ability to recruit one of the best high school football states in the nation. Do you think if this were 4 years ago Isiaah Crowell would not have already committed to UGA?
It is very hard for me to really talk about the NC game and not just say "Let's Go Ducks". I know that this board is very pro-SEC, but being a Bama fan makes it virtually impossible to ever pull for Auburn. I will get some flack for this, but I also don't like how the Cam Newton situation just sort of went away. There isn't a person on this blog - Auburn fan or not - that can honestly say that they believe Cam didn't know anything about what his dad was doing. Anyway, moving forward I just want a competitive game. If my team can't play for it, I at least want the game to be a good one to watch. I don't want to sit through a blow-out by Auburn OR Oregon. So here is to a competitive game and may the best team win.
ReplyDeleteThe Bama team that showed up in the bowl game was healthy and what I expected to see all year long. I was very happy with the game and glad that they finally played up to their potential. The biggest variable now will be who stays and who goes. As much as I would like Ingram, Jones, Dareus and the whole lot of them to stick around for another year, you really can't blame them for making the jump to the pros for hella money. I can only hope that they will all make cameos in the next "Roll Tide" commercial. Badass.
Harbough should stay in college. Not very many coaches that make the leap to the NFL are successful and I think it would be more fulfilling to work with collegiate athletes. But, much like players leaving early for money, coaches have to do what is best for them and their families.
UGA needs some new blood. I think that they have become content and they need to shake it up. CMR has all of the character, ethics and morals that a univeristy could ever desire in their head coach, but that doesn't win the hardware. In my opinion, he has done less with more for too many years now. I think that UGA will be strong next year and I look forward to seeing Murray continue to grow as a quarterback and think his future is bright.
Agree totally on the Cam deal Pulley. And I would imagine it would be even tougher to question anything about the investigation being a Bamar because then you just get called a hater. I do believe that Auburn paid Cecil Newton, I believe that Cam knew all about it, and I also believe that Auburn got a hell of a return on their investment. None of my beliefs make me think any less of Auburn. Hell, I actually think more of them because they pulled it off. My thoughts on pay for play schemes is if you don't get caught then it don't matter. "it's not a foul unless the ref blows the whistle" -nick noltey in blue chips in reference to paying players (great quote on my part here) Anyway, Go Auburn! War Tiger! And Fuck the Duck.
ReplyDeleteGeorgia sucks balls. That was the lowest point I have had in over a decade with college football. However, CMR deserves time to get us back on course. how much time? 11 months. UGA has to beat Fla next year AND win 9 games. I understand what pepper is saying about, "if you are at this point then why not fire him?" but i disagree. in business i am faced with firing people and it is by far the toughest thing i have to do. I take it very serious and if always effects me personally. BUT i try my best not to put off what i know i need to do because it is effecting how i provide for my family. So Im looking at CMR the same way. Does he deserve to coach this year and a chance to make things right? If I had an employee that had succeed to the degree that CMR has then I know with out question that he would be given time to get out of his funk. CMR has been paid a lot of money, but he has made a lot of money. UGA is in the top 5 schools every year for revenue. So I will say to CMR what I what would tell my employee, "Get your head of your ass or you're shit canned!"
just re-read my comment... i may want to do this before i hit post. i may have the english skills of a 4th grader, i worry that parker is going to pass me here pretty soon.
ReplyDeleteWow, several legitimate responses without hateraid being poured all over the post. I agree to a point with what everyone has said here other than Culpepper's thinking that Bama would have killed Stanford. I watched the first half of the Bama game and the final three quarters of the game last night and I'm not sure who I think is the better team. Two very well coached hard nosed teams. That in my opinion is what the BCS has to get to if they want to make the bowl season legitimate. Forget about conference tie ins and all of that. Pick teams as you wish, as long as they are in the Top 16 in the final regular season poll. Think about how much better this would make the BCS bowls. No UConn this year, VT would be on the fence. Add Bama and maybe UGA to more legitimize the BCS.
ReplyDeleteoh yea, I want Harbough to go to the pros. I think he would make a GREAT nfl head coach and i would love to see him at Denver with the 2nd overall pick and land Luck. then we could have the Denver Cardinal. VP, HC, and QB.
ReplyDeleteand speaking of hateraid, how fucking stupid is a tree as a mascot??
little more hateraid. VT's most recognizable alum was arrested for Dog fighting. Stanford's was Secretary of State.
And with all these long comments you can sum it up with the simple word "playoff". Fuck all the conferences. Just do away with them and bring it.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't think anyone wanted any part of Stanford or Bama in a playoff right now.
ReplyDeleteI would hope a three loss team wouldn't make a playoff.
ReplyDeleteAnd welcome back to the board A.Lee. This thread is too mature and grown-up for you so why don't you wait until we get back to the personal attacks and "yo momma" jokes before you make any more comments. Auburn wouldn't want any of the Bama team that showed up in the bowl game. Enjoy it while it lasts. Next year won't be that much different for Cam in the NFL...he will still be cashing checks just like he did in the college.
ReplyDeleteLETS GO DUCKS!
You bammars ended the year like you started it. Best team, best 1-2-3 loss team, best team ever. I have a short memory to BP but im almost sure it was 28-27 Aub. ROLL TIDE ROLL TIDE
ReplyDeleteWhat has Auburn done the past 3 years? They have one outstanding year and all the sudden you think they are the greatest ever. Yes, the lost to Auburn. Yes, they lost 3 games. Riveting information their buddy. I will check this next statement, but I believe during the bowl game it was stated that Alabama set the record for most wins in the SEC over a 3 year period. But you got one thing correct....Roll Tide Roll.
ReplyDelete80, 81, and 82 Georgia didn't lose a conference game.
ReplyDeleteJoe, the statement was in regards to overall wins in a 3 year span and not just SEC victories. UGA won 33 games from 1980-1982. Alabama won 36 games from 2008-2010. That is what I was referring to my man.
ReplyDeleteplus, these years people play 8 SEC games vs. 6 back in the day - So even if you compared just the conference games it really wouldn't be fair to Bama. adding 6 conference games to the 80,81,82 schedule would be like a whole damn year of conf games.
ReplyDeleteBut since it got taken as a comparison - it would be interesting to see who we thought was the best team in SEC history over a 3 year span.
You should start a new post with that question. It will get lost at the bottom of this thread. This one could get interesting.
