Weekend wrap up

This is a High School football, now matter you dress it up or how many big bowl games you play in Tech fans, it is still a high school football play. With a month to prepare it will and has lost every time since 1995 in a games against a good team. And now that it his been in the ACC for 2 full years I imagine it will not work so good there either (but then again the ACC is yet to win a non conference game) so maybe it will work in your own shitty conference.

Either this guy is the best RB in the SEC or UGAys (for Joe and John) new DC needs to still be yelling at his D. If I learned one thing from this game it is how good A.J. Green really is and how much UGAys offense depends on him. Maybe his suspension will get reduced but if not prepare for a long day against ARK.

miami-football-ga.jpg miami hurricanes image by caseyj123456

Really thought this was going to go the other way I thought Miami would be faster and stronger, I didn’t watch much of the game so I can’t give insight on why but I thought Miami would win.

Who you rather have in the big game? This guy or the guy that just got trounced by the coach formerly known as “big game Bob”? Maybe if they keep playing FSU he will get his nickname back!

COD LOCK results 9/11

BIGGEST WINNER OF THE WEEK!!1

Jody +6*s

1* Michigan +4 WINNER -

2* Oklahoma –7 1/2 WINNER

3* San Jose St +38 – WINNER – great pick here Jody!  Wisc didn’t even score in the 30’s and SJS got 2 td’s and I think that is exactly what you said would happen.

BIGGEST POLE SMOKER OF THE WEEK

Reese –6*’s

1* Georgia Tech –13 1/2 LOSER – WOW!!  Are you kidding me?  Turner Gill?  The Jay Hawks?  As a double digit favorite?  PJ gave TG a BJ.

2* FSU +7 – LOSER Another great pick here.  They lost by 30 points.

3* Oklahoma State –13 1/2 LOSER – Should have lost this game.  The men of Troy have a history of stepping up against Big 12 schools and they did again.

All in all Reese, you wouldn’t have hit any of your games if you would have Teased it and gotten 10 points per game.  You would have still lost every game even you would have gotten 10 points.  By far the worse week we have had on the blog yet…

THE REST OF THE FIELD

Starrett +4*s

1* UGA +3 – LOSER not much to say here..  I hadn’t put my thoughts together yet

2* LSU –13 – WINNER - Nice win here.  I thought the line was a little low here but thought it was a little too low.  Nice job jumping on this.

3* Auburn WINNER – a win is a win.

Culpepper +4*S

3* LSU –9 1/2 WINNER been said

2* Stanford –6 WINNER very nice pick here pepper.  Stanford completely dominated UCLA as a small road favorite.

1* FSU +7 LOSER been said

Rusteez +4*’S (ASSUMING ATL COVERS / EVEN MONEY IF THEY DONT)

1* Da U +8 1/2 LOSER – close game and if Harris dont throw 13 interceptions then i think the Canes win let alone cover.

2* Falcoons -2

3* Hawaii +3 WINNER – was a little worried about the time of game for Hawaii but this game was never in question.  This is a 3* pick Rusty.  Nice Job..

Joe EVEN*’s

1* Wyoming +29 WINNER

2* Hawaii +3 WINNER

3* UGA +3  LOSER

Pulley –4*’s THE ONLY REASON YOU ARE NOT THE WEEKS BIGGEST LOSER IS REESE MADE SURE HE WAS..  you are a big pole smoker.

1* Bama –12 – WINNER – Bama is bigger, faster, stronger, more disciplined, better coached, than anybody in the Country.  period.

2* West Va –12 – LOSER – should have lost this double digit favorite straight up

3* Oklahoma State –13 1/2 LOSER – another double digit favorite you should have lost straight up.

Week 2 ball busters

I'm too stupid to figure out how to layout my pics after my write up so forgive me. I added some I candy for Pepper to look at anyway. I hate only having to pick 3 games. If I like 10 I bet on 10. If I don't like any, I have no problen riding solo for the weekend. With that said I like 5 games this weekend, but I'll try to give you my best 3 (for cod lock results) and 2 bonus picks for you that have faith in me and just want my advice. All max stars whatever that may be.

1. GT -13.5 @ Kansas: Kansas had to be looking past NDSt last week and didn't prep for them at all. With that said, Turner Gill used to run an option attack for the Big Red. He mainly used a double option attack out of an I. He's never faced a beast like this before. This gets ugly and Nesbitt has a big day spinning the ball.

2. FSU +7 @ OU: Talent wise it is equal or maybe in favor of the noles a tad. Ponder is the real deal and I think Stoops has the D out of the ice age and playing up to their capability. Go money line if you want.

3. Oky St -13.5 vs T Roy: T. Boone Pickens has more power than any one in college football. He obviously thinks like me and liked Houston's offense so much last year that he went out and bought their OC. It should be clicking even more as the learning curve to a new offense levels out more from week 1 to 2. Big day from the 26 yr old QB.

**Bonus picks** for those of you following Reese "The Greek " this week:

4. Da U + 8 @ tOSU: According to my good buddy Will English in a convo we had some time ago.............

Me: "Will, why do you think all those south Florida players are so fast.

Will: Well, when these islanders that eat jerk meat and chicken come over here and breed with main land athletes they, in turn, create a "Super Athlete". They have milk and all sorts of protein at their disposal now that they are off the island".

Me: Ok. Good enough for me.

With that said, I don't think OSU has as many "Super Athletes" as Da U.

5. Michigan +3.5 at ND: Rich Rod has his boys finally playing up to his level expectation. ND doesn't have the speed on D to keep up with UM. High scoring game.

2nd Week underway

Auburn didn’t look as bad as some Auburn fans are thinking, at least not to me.  I have spoken to a couple today and you would have thought they lost the damn game.  A road win in the SEC is a good win, be happy and don’t embarrass us against Clemson next weekend.  Cam Newton is the real deal and the way he handled the post game interview was classy.  I hope this kid has a good year and I will stop calling him a thief.. at least until they play UGA.  #90 on the D Line is a beast!  Really fun to watch him handle double teams like they are nothing.  And I am still on Mullen’s ball sack, and I think Reese is also.

FSU going to Norman will be very interesting.  Oklahoma has the longest active home winning streak and I think FSU could snap it.   Ponder will either leave this game in the Heisman race or Oklahoma will leave as a front runner for the National title game.

Da U at the Horse Shoe smells like another possible upset.  I am pulling for the U but not sure how Miami is entering the game mentally.  I heard an interview with Coach RS and it didn’t feel like the swagger of the U of old…

Alabama and Penn State is going to be fun to watch.  The tradition of these to schools dwarf most schools.  And the fact that the uniforms or helmets have not changed makes it even better.  When you see those Crimson helmets with the numbers going head on with those solid white ones, you know you are watching the University of Alabama and Penn State.  I hope that the Bama fans will pay respect to Joe Pa with a loud ass standing ovation - I think Bear would appreciate it.

Georgia has to win Saturday.  I know that us Georgia fans are passionate and sometimes may have higher expectations than the nation, but isn’t that what a fan is supposed to do?  I believe that this game dictates our season.  I believe that if South Carolina wins this game, no matter how close, then our season goes down also.  I think that we could end up with a miserable season if we don’t take care of business tomorrow and I am very nervous.  A win = the SEC East title and a L = 8-4 at best.  Hopeful the team is going into it with those same thoughts.

Quick Picks

I am in the middle of a shit storm at work so there will be no write up for my picks....

3* Ok State (-13.5)

2* West Virginia (-12)

1* Alabama (12)

I will try to get back on here and give a write up. Just wanted to get my picks posted.

RMFT and good luck this weekend boys.

Cod Locks

Well the NFL season is officiall underway. We had a real shootout last night and it was quite entertaining at 14-9.

I wanted to share a breakdown of some of the teams strenghts and weaknesses that I lifted off of ameicas greatest news source."the Onion"

San Diego - Unmatched at dominating the competition all season long and then dramatically losing in their first playoff game
Tampa Bay - They play the Rams, so at least one of those teams won't have to lose every game this season
Green Bay - After giving up 50 sacks in 2009, Green Bay's offensive line appears to have forgiven Aaron Rodgers for whatever he did
New Orleans - Drew Brees didn't lose his right arm in a logging accident, so that bodes well
Washington - Acquisition of 33-year-old Donovan McNabb gives them a solid quarterback for maybe four weeks
San Francisco - He may not be a Joe Montana, but Alex Smith is proving to be a better QB than Jim Druckenmiller, Gio Carmazzi, or Steve Stenstrom ever were
Miami - With a new big-name free agent and a talented young quarterback, Miami has the potential to disappoint like never before.
Kansas City -  Easy schedule as team plays seven games in the CFL this season
Cleveland - n/a

And finally, a couple of the weaknesses:
Dallas - Other than being the most infuriating, knuckle-whitening, I-want-to-throw-a-brick-through-my-television-set-when-I-watch-them team in the league, they are a little weak at free safety
Cincinnatti - Terrell Owens wants to prove he can still play at a high level, but he wants to systematically destroy an entire football organization much, much more

Now, on to my pics for the week.

[08_jarah-mariano_13.jpg]

3. NCAA Hawaii +3

Sorry but the boys just looked good last week. They put up 36 on USC, granted they are not the usc of old but still.

Also, Army doesn't play well at home. They are 3-9 ATS at home in the last 12 and 1-7 SU in the last 8.

I'm guessing HAwaii wins this one by a touchdown.

2. NFL Atl -2

I think the coons take advantage of a Ben-less team and take care of business in a big way

1. NCAA Miami +8.5

For the simple reason that I love their QB and this is just way too many point to hand to a team like Miami.

I would have loves to say my Vols are gonna shock the world this weekend and I do think they have a chance if they can find a way to control time of possesion and win the turnover battle.

But I aint putting a dime down to back that up.

Happy football weekend to all

Personal Favorite

RMFT!!!!

WOW!!

I think I am just going to start handicapping the pictures that everyone keeps posting....

3* to the one that causes a heart attack
2* to the one that brings on the chubby
1*.....who am I kidding. Ain't none of these chicks 1*!!!

Got dern.....

Don't have time for a write-up right now, but here's my Thursday leans.

All 3 star picks

Dawgs +3

AU PK

LSU -9.5

One more round of applause for hot girls and football, they go together well

Cod Lock time

3 point pick LSU –9.5

image

LSU has a lot to prove after UNC almost took them down with 16 players suspended, everyone remember the name Patrick Peterson he will be the reason they win in specail teams and D. Vandy has a new coach who is really funny but I am not sure if he will laughing after this game.

2 point pick -6

Andrew luck is all you need to know, yes UCLA had a good recruiting class and is getting better, but Stanford knows if they beat Oregon they can win the pac 10 this year and Harbaugh is too good of a coach to get let down in this I think he will pour it on and try to win some style points for his heisman candidate.

1 point pick FSU +7

“Ponder for Heisman” well maybe last year was a little early but this year we could be saying that after this game. As bad as Oklahoma looked against Utah St. I hope they got the kinks worked because FSU aint no joke this year

Reese,

I was going to pick Tech but as you know I like to post pictures of hot girls that go to the schools of my winning picks so I am sure you can understand why Tech didn’t make the list

JOE’S PICKS

3 point Cod Lock - Georgia Bulldogs +3 – georgia-girl the Dawgs have a breaking out party and young WR’s step up.  M. Brown, R. Wooten step up and TK shows up big.  Durham will be Murray’s saftey net and Orson Charles (his old high school buddy) will also get his touches.  Ealey makes it clear that this is his team and the Dawgs keep the Cocks guessing all game.  Todd Gratham will have the D hitting harder than we have seen in recent years.  Garcia will be running for his life and will not fair as well as he did against Southern Miss.  The Dawgs win by a TD as a 3 pt Dog.

2 point Cod Lock – Hawaii +3 – frog, hawaiian girl, fairies outside 014fixed  I don’t typically like Hawaii playing away from home especially so early in the day.  12:00 eastern time is 6 am their time (someone may want to check this)  but Army will be alot slower than USC last weekend.

1 point Cod Lock – Wyoming +29 –wyomingfan1-1 the longhorns are a far more talented team than Wyoming..  Far better in every aspect of the game.  However, I do think they are working out some kinks in the Texas offense and Wyoming will score a couple of TD’s making it awful hard to cover 30 points.  (who knew that cowboy tattoo’s on each breast would be so….  uhh..  what the hell was this bitch thinking?)

Another reason living in Alabama sucks

Tonight the Auburn Tigers will go to Starkville Mississippi to play the “other” bulldogs and I am really going to be pulling for the Tigers.  I am looking forward to seeing Cam Newton against an SEC team and I am also excited to watch Dan Mullen..  We are getting closer and closer to seeing him build a program and this game tonight will tell us a lot about both teams.   I got a bad feeling that State may win this game but have very little to base it on.  Just one of those hunches but I will be really pulling for Auburn.

Alabama will host Penn State and I would love nothing more than to show the Big 10 (or 12 – they need to make a damn name change)  and give everybody in the Nation another reason that the Mighty SEC is truly Mighty.   I hope Bama runs it right down their throats and show Linebacker U that they need to go back to school.

That said, if this happens, what I WANT and PULLING for happens then I will truly be miserable all of next week..  These ignorant ass people that I live around will make my life miserable all week.  MISERABLE!!  and heaven forbid the Dawgs fall to So Carolina.. Then I will get killed!!

So there you have it.  I am pulling for Auburn and Alabama this weekend but not their ignorant ass fans.

59354087_9d1aa9ff5b

classy!

Bet the House

1. Michigan (+4) against N. Dame. Notre Dame is still Notre Dame even with Brian Kelly (no defense). Rich Rod needs this win or he may not make it through the season. (Mich. 31 N. Dame 20)

2. Oklahoma (-7.5) against Fla. St. Ok didn't look great last week but I think they bounce back. Look for a close game but OK pulls it out in the end by 8. You will be puckered up the whole game if you take OK, but don't worry they will pull it out. (OK 38 Fla. St. 30)

3. San Jose St. (+38) against Wisconsin. I saw SJS play last Saturday and they are pretty bad. In saying this I don't know if Wisc. can or will score enough to cover the 38. I know Wisc. has one of the best O lines in the country, but I still don't see a lot of points. Also I think SJS scores a TD or two. (Wisc. 35 SJS 13)

Play by Play

Earlier this year I did a post about how I was planning on earning my press credentials so I could have a good parking spot and get back stage for Bamajam next year – I spoke with the guy from the local paper about taking some pictures for him and I also spoke with the guy from the TV network about doing anything for them, for free of course.  He mentioned a blue grass festival coming later in the year and that he may be able to get me to do interviews with the people.  I was like, SWEET!  This morning I spoke with him and it  that I may be making my play by play debut..  That’s right, play by play for an entire high school football game.  He has a color guy, local high school player, but may need a play by play for the TV broadcast.  May never happen, but it could happen as early as tomorrow night.

I am already preparing just in case I get the call (which is doubtful) but need some tag lines for big plays..  You know, Like “we just stepped on their face with a hob nail boot and broke their noses!” – Munson

COD LOCK PICKS

to try and keep this as level of playing field as we can – I would like to throw out a couple of things that I would like to change to our Cod Lock picks.

Each person only gets 3 picks and each pick needs to be designated as a 3,2, or 1 pick.  So each person has the same number of picks and the same number of Cod Lock points are available.   You can mix your picks between College and Pro – 3 college and no pros, 2 college and 1 pro, you get the point.  Any way, this will only give our readers the real deal picks.  I am interested to see how our 3* picks do – I have a feeling that we are better than we think with our favorite game of the week.

Give me your thoughts on this guys.

AJ Green saga....

Well, my sources are telling me AJ Green will be suited up and ready to go this weekend in Columbia. Word is that the main problem was not the party in South Beach concerning AJ. He evidentally signed one of his jerseys and sold it to someone at some point in time. I personally don't see anything wrong with this, but evidentally it may violate some bylaw. Anyway look for #8 to be on the field this weekend. Official announcement will probably come down today.

UP 20 STARS!!!

Starrett and “Slay your Bookie” took -

USC –21 with a 3* LOSER

Oklahoma St –15 1/2 2* WINNER – and good call on this game.  it was never in doubt.

North Texas +24 with a 2* WINNER – a win is a win but this one was close – if this would have been a higher star then i would say something but as a 2* game, ill let a close one slide

Oregon State +13 1/2 2*- WINNER - loved this game also JS, Oregon State is not a joke and could be the team that keeps Boise State from crashing our party

V Tech +2 1/2 4* – LOSER – what a game, i didnt have a clue on this game but you and Pepper talked very high about it (see the 4*) yall can say VT lost instead of saying Boise won but the bottom line is that the pick lost

winning record but negative 1 stars – couple of points from a big winner or a bigger loser.

Pulley picked

Iowa St –4 1/2 WINNER 4* – game never in question

up 1

Russ Tezz

UK – 3 WINNER 3*– already used my joke on the coaches

CINNCY +1 LOSER 4*- see Joe

Va Tech +1 1/2 LOSER 2* – the only thing you have here is that you selected less stars than the other suckers

looks like we should be getting your picks for free for a while with over all –3*

Week 2: Not my picks but early lines that stood out to me.

As I said these aren't my picks just yet, but these stuck out to me as I looked over covers.com. Let's discuss:

My Jackets -13 @ Kansas. Did Turner Gill overlook ND St and spend all his spring and summer working on the 30?

FSU+9.5 @ OU. Talent wise should be pretty even.

Michigan +3.5 @ ND. After looking back at some ND highlights, they still look slow. Could it be their grass is ankle deep?

Da U +8.5 @ tOSU. They looked pretty even as far as 1st game results?

Ok St-14 vs Troy. I'm telling you guys Ok St will continue to get better with this new offense. The thing I don't know about is Troy. What do you Bama guys know about them? Is it pretty much your typical Troy team with thugs kicked off of the Floridas of the world or is this a different team?

Was I wrong? Yes! Still question Bosie? Yes!

First I will admit Bosie St. is a lot better than I thought they were. That being said if any ACC team had been up 17-0 and nothing and won the game against VT in the last minute would it have been called heroic? No. For some reason announcers still love Bosie and their us against the world story. When LSU almost lost to a team ranked higher than them was it impressive to ESPN? NO. But for some reason Bosie beating an opponent ranked lower than them is HEROIC! Too bad we can't say to Bosie you are in a real conference and will have to do that 4 more times this year, no they won their one game of the season and now they will play their WAC (pun intended) schedule and coast to the National Championship game. Maybe it will them and TCU and 127 people will watch and we will get a playoff!!!

Blog Picks

I am curious how, if at all, we are going to track the blog picks for the year. Now that we are assigning star values to all of the picks will there be a weekly update with everyone's record and star totals? Even though this board is already overrun with egos and testosterone, this should be for bragging and shit talking rights only. Last place gets their man card revoked at the end of the year.

On another note, opening weekend was great. Thank the Lord that CFB is back and my weekends feel normal again. Here are a few observations:

- Texas, Oklahoma and Florida struggled
- Boise State looked like a real contender
- Bama & UGA hammered weaker opponents
- Les Miles is in trouble

Sunday, September 5, 2010

My thoughts so far on opening weekend.

I think overall the board had some pretty good picks. Mine were unstoppable.

Apparently the Dawgs looked good. I have no clue, just going by what some of the fans are saying.

My Jackets looked ok. The O will get better because we all know "when the leaves start turnin the option starts churnin". The D is still struggling, but is a work in progress. 10 games is doable this year.

Ole Miss got beat by an underrated Jax St team. Just a bunch of dropout D1 thugs. To me this is not a huge suprise. Nowhere near App St at the Big House.

Pepper's team looked good on O, but Teddy Roof and The Chizz need to get the D going.

Les Miles will be fired after this year.

Bama is just a machine. Fundamentally sound with 5* players=championships.

Dan Mullen going to MSU keeps reaffirming what Joe and I have been thinking all along. He had more to do with UF's offense than people will admit. That may have been his baby? I do think UF will be fine though.

Notre Dame looked pretty good from some of the highlights I caught. We'll find out next week when the play Michigan(who looked REALLY good).

Ok St will be my money team this year. Just like Texas Tech used to be. They'll keep pouring it on all game.

I think UT will be ready for Oregon (700+ yards yesterday) this coming weekend.

Oh and I'm ready to see tOSU take on Da U,who all the commentators say is back. They have to show me something first.

That's pretty much it for now.

I'm back you fuckers! Go Vols!

Well it's been a long offseason and last night was like Christmas. Anybody else think South Carolina looked pretty tough last night? The old ball coach has still got it it seems. I know you've all been waiting on some picks that are actually reliable and profitable, so not to worry, Rusty "the Fucking Bookie Slayer" Thomas is back.

I don't have time to go into great detail this week as I'm about to haul ass out the door to watch the games up in the mountains all weekend so without further ad

3* Kentucky -3
I like this game for many reasons but the simplest reason is that of these 2 teams that call kentucky home, only one of them is in the SEC. Yep, that's my reaon, if you don't like feel free to go fuck yourself.

4* Cicy +1
I love this game. Why? Cause sometimes when things seem to good to be true, they aren't

2* Va Tech + 1.5
Come guys, it's Boise. It's a pipe dream. This is there highest ranking ever and it ain't going no higher. Va tech is way to tough and wins this game outright by atleast a touchdown.

Parlay all 3 if you're smart. They're free this week, just a taste. I may charge for these money makers in the future so get em while ya can.

Happy Season everybody and Fuck You Joe!
Rusty Out!

Everyone else is doing it.....

this should have been with my previous post....

Week 1 Locks

Don't have much time due to work so here are the picks - short & sweet

1. Iowa St (-4.5) will cover tonight against an over-matched N. Illinois team. Not a lot behind this pick. I just like it and it will pay off. On the COD LOCK scale, I give this a 4.

2. LSU (-6) will crush UNC. There are too many distractions coming into the game for UNC to be ready for this game. The Tigers have a lot to prove and Les Miles is feeling the heat. Alabama has used this game the past 2 seasons as a springboard to a big season and LSU will do the same. This is a full scale 5 on the CL scale.

3. San Jose State (+37). I don't like big spreads even if it is the defending national champs. Alabama has never been one to blow out opponents. With the Ingram injury I just don't see them trying to do too much this first game. This game will be about ball control and getting some live action for the rebuilt defense. Bama wins this game without a doubt, but they won't cover. All that being said, I am only going to give this a 3 on the CL scale. You never know, maybe Saban hasn't been laid much in the past month and will be pissed. Or maybe they will be looking to make a statement. This is one game where if I am wrong, I don't care.

BP

Bonus for all Blog Supporters

Enjoy, now go back to work.

With 16 possible players out @ UNC, just how bad will they get clown stomped Sat night???

Rumors swirling that UNC may have 16 players out. Maybe they pull a UGAy (that's for you John and Joe) and roll the suspensions to 8 one game and 8 the next(against my Jackets). This could get ugly for the most over hyped team in the land.

SLAY YOUR BOOKIE TIME

OK boys, time to make some money and piss off some bookies. We'll start it off on the west coast Thursday night when the Trojans of USC travel to Hawaii for some R&R. Kiffin will be trying to make a statement in this one and he will. USC will destroy the Rainbows and you'll be off to a 1-0 start to the season. Lay the 21 points and collect on Friday morning. This is a 3 star pick.

I'm going to agree with Reese on Oklahoma State -15.5. Take the Cowboys over an overmatched Washington State team who has been the floormats of a mediocre PAC-10 for years. Nothing changes this year and OSU rolls. I'll put this as a 2 star pick.

I'll agree with Reese about North Texas, they suck. Take Clemson and lay the 24, look for Kyle Parker to have a big day. 2 star pick.

Give me Oregon State to cover against TCU. The Rogers brothers are back for their seventh year of college football and look for that experience to keep them well within the 13.5 points being handed to them. I wouldn't be shocked to see an upset here. I don't know what Oregon State has with their new QB, but he should be good enough. 2 star pick

In the big game of week 1, I'm gonna go with Virginia Tech catching 2.5 points. I'll probably throw the points away and hit the money line if possible. I agree with Pepper, Boise State will suffer their first loss in a 2 years in this one. BCS supporters better hope like hell VT beats Boise b/c its gonna shock the system if they don't. I like Taylor at QB and VT has two running backs that will put up plenty of rushing yardage for the Hokies. I'll make this a 4 star pick.

Good luck to all and don't forget who gave you these SLAY YOUR BOOKIE pics.

I'm getting in on the mix.

OK. Here's my picks for week one. All these are in the 3.5-4 point range as I don't like to bet in week one. I win in numbers, not by placing my balls on the table under a guillotine. However I will have my "Guillotine Pick" after I see a few games. Here we go:

Minnesota -3 @ Middle Tenn St: Dwight Dasher was recently suspended. It may be different if it wasn't so recent. I don't know shit about Minn but they can beat MTS without Dasher.

Dawgs -28 vs La Lafayette: Man I hate the dawgs with a passion but they should put a beat down on the Ragin Cajuns. Look for the 1st team D to stay in through the 3rd just to break in the new 3-4 scheme.

Kentuky -3.5 @ Louisville: Joker Phillips has learned from a great coach and has a lot of talent coming back. Charlie Strong will have his hands full trying to turn a program around. Plus I think he's gonna suck as a HC.

Clemson -24 vs N. Texas: North Texas sux.

Ok St-15.5 vs Wazzu: Ok State has a 26 yr old qb that played in the minors. Think Chris Weinke. They have had all spring and summer to put in Dana Holgremson's offense (sp?). You know, Houston's OC last year. The same Houston team that beat Ok St. Ok St beat UGA and apparently "I'm a man, I'm 40" liked what he saw and hired him away from the cougars. Over could be good on this game too.

COD LOCKS

VT giving 2 1/2 to Bosie St. Yes sir all day long. I doubt very seriously that this Bosie team has ever played against 2 players in the same game that run a 4.4 40. That is what the water boys run at VT. Assuming that Bosie knows there is no way that they can play man to man I expect them to start in zone and if they do please allow me to introduce Ryan Williams. Once Williams starts running rampid they will have to play some man, assuming the Bosie CB’s can run with those guys ( which I don’t think they can) then CB’s backs will be turned and Tyrod Taylor will have 120 rushing yards. I think we all know that VT and NC are the only teams in the ACC that can spell defense and VT has a very fast one especially when they are going after a QB. I think Kellen Moore has the worst game of his career and misses some plays due to getting banged up. I will take VT all day long on this one, place your bets, enjoy the game, and collect your money.

Cod Lock

Lets open up the season with a strong as Hell 5 point COD LOCK!!  understand that 5 is the highest point value and that is EXCATLLY why this is a 5 pointer.

42438946_1ab77a1545 Iowa State has one of the toughest schedule in the country this year and they understand that if they want to get back to a bowl game, that they enjoyed winning last year vs. a pretty good Minnesota team, then they will need to win every single game that they can.  Wins are not going to come easy for this team and starting out with a loss to a team like N Ill could end their bowl hopes before the season even gets going good.  Returning nearly everyone on the O Line along with the teams leading Rusher - Iowa State is looking to get a little better with the passing game and this will be a great opportunity to do just that with N Ill losing some key spots in the Deff back field.  Chizik showed us that he can recruit when he got to Auburn and this team at Iowa State is full of his recruits.  Iowa State gets off to a Great start at home under the lights on Thursday night with a double digit victory.  Lay the small points that are getting bigger every day and get your weekend started in the black.  5 POINT COD LOCK IOWA STATE –4

(things i know: i know that N Ill beat Iowa St in 2003, I know that Iowa St is playing their in-state rival next week, I know that N Ill is returning a stud at DE, and I know you are going to win money on this game if you listen to the big daddy)

It’s this Saturday

couple of games that I would like some conversation on…

Oregon State @ TCU : TCU is sitting at –13.5 against a decent Pac-10 school.  How will TCU handle the pre-season rankings?  This is TCU’s ONLY game against a team preseason in the top 25 and Org St is sitting at #24.  So who covers this game??   I like Oregon State getting the points.  I like TCU to win the game but it seems to me, that other than BYU, when these boys play a big game that it is nail bitter.  So I will take the 13 1/2 points and the BEAVERS!!

LSU vs. UNC in the ATL : LSU is laying 1 but this game has been taken off the board pretty much everywhere in Vegas.  Give me your thoughts on this game assuming LSU goes up to like a 6 pt favorite.

and don’t forget to post your Cod Locks this week and assign a point value to it.  1-5 are the point options and you can take UP TO 3 games.

Richt security

Brad and I were chatting (i know, sounds gay – the really bad part is now we video chat which is really gay) the other day when Georgia got their new AD - about what the new guy means for Richt’s security.

Brad:  I think it puts more pressure on him(Richt) and he has to win the east or at least win 10 in the next two years.

me: next 2 years yes. this year, no.

Brad: I still think he has to win 8 this year which shouldn't be that hard but if he doesn't I think the new AD flexes his muscles and everyone will listen to him because he is from the mighty Florida regime.

me: 6 wins MAY get him fired. 7 and up and he is safe

Brad: I disagree go read what UGA fans are writing about this new AD, even though I like this, I think a lot of people are thinking that reign of UF is over. I think if Richt loses to UF the next two years he is gone unless he wins the SEC with a loss to UF.

So instead of setting a over/under for GA this year I wanted to set one for Richt’s job.  What is the magic number Richt needs to have a job with the Dawgs next year and over the next 2 years.  I think 5 1/2 is the number this year.  If Richt wins 6 he keeps his job but his seat is VERY hot going into next year.  Next year is a little different to handicap because we don’t know how he will be entering next year.   So here is my over/unders based on wins this year.. 6, 7, and 8 wins this year then next year the total is 8 1/2.  9 wins and better this year and we are back like we are this year and he isn’t even on the hot seat so the total would be around 5 1/2 again.

your thoughts?

Over/Under

Mississippi Rebels 8 Wins

With Jack St, Tulane, Vandy, Fresno St, And Louy Laf all being wins, that makes 5.  So will they win 4 or more against UK, Bama, ARkansas, Auburn, UT, LSU, and Miss St?

The U 9 wins

Fla A&M, Duke, Virginia, and Maryland being the 4 sure wins – can the Canes win 6 or more against Ohio St, Pitt, Clemson, FSU, UNC, GT, VT, and South Fla?

Welcome

825743

If you cant beat em, then steal from them.  Greg McGarity will be named the AD for the University of Georgia and I am pretty damn happy about it.  Florida has been one of the top athletic departments in the Nation and McGarity has played a huge roll in it being Foley’s right hand man.

Things are looking good.  After Richt wins 10 ball games and the SEC East this year and Fox goes to the Sweet 16 next year then he will be able to focus on some other sports.

COD LOCK

Last year several of us would make our picks on the blog.   This year you will need to give your Cod Lock a point value for how good you feel about it 1-5.  PLUS you are only allowed up to 3 picks per week.  I don’t want this non-sense of posting 8 picks.  If you do not want to make any picks then you do not have to (you will be called the P word if you don’t), if you only want to give 1 pick then that is cool also.  Monday morning we will see who had the best Cod Locks of the weekend based on your points.

If you are the Cod Locker of the Week – well, you are the Cod Locker of the week.

Pre-Season Poll

Our poll compared to the USA today poll.  We have a lot of similarities with this poll but we also had a couple of teams that we disagree on.  USC obviously can not be voted on because Southern Methodist was in the “others receiving votes” category and the Trojans were not.  So I will disregard them.  Arkansas was the next team on our poll that they didn’t give as much love to.  We have them at 11 and they got them at 19.  Oklahoma was a team they gave a good bit more love to than we did at 8 and we have them at 14.  Oregon is sitting 11 and we got them at 16.  Wisconsin is sitting at 12 on theirs and 17 on ours.  For the most part though, the polls had a good bit in common.  Bama 1, OSU 2, Boise st 3/5, VT 4/6, Texas 5/4, Florida 6/3, Iowa 7/10.  Basically 1 team off in our top 10.

Friday Farts

Tiger just sucks.  He is in a field of 81 players and he is tied for 70th.  Since when was Tiger completely irrelevant in golf?  It would be one thing if he just had a bad day but his play this year is horrible.  But does this mean anything?  His positions this year in Tourneys is 4, mc, wd, 19, 4, 46, 23, and 70 right now after 1st rd – BUT, and I’m counting on you guys that wear the plaid shorts with the white belts with your visor with a little hair coming down in front of your face that call yourselves golfers (i call you assholes) I need a little help here.  He has played in 7 Tourneys not including the one he is in currently and 3 of those were majors.  Out of the 3 majors he has finished 4 (masters), 4 (us open), and 23 (british open).  When you look at just the majors he don’t look to shaby.  My question is this, Is Tiger using the other tourneys to work on something or change something or does he just not take them nearly a serious.  I mean golf isn’t like any other sport.  Tiger could suck balls for the rest of the year and be invited to play at all the Majors next year.

Ran across a story this morning titled, “5 Most underrated teams heading into the college football Season.”  The picture with the story was of the U and several of us here on Southern Fried have predicted a good season for Miami.  Miami, the author predicts, will win 10 games this year and could run the table.  Georgia Bulldogs (i did not know they were on the list and i would have posted this story regardless but yes, i was happy to see them) biggest question is Aaron Murray and the Defense but he does have Georgia as a sleeper this year.  Florida Gators were on the list and I’m not sure how they can be under rated… I mean, I’m expecting them to be in the National Title hunt even with all of the losses.  Georgia Tech was another team on the list with mentions of Anthony Allen having a bigger role now that Dwyer is gone and like Georgia the D is one of the biggest concerns.  Wisconsin was the last team  this guy claims that the Wisc/Ohio St game on Oct 16th will be for the Big 10 title. (could you imagine an October game that would decide the SEC?  That normally happens in December and nobody has a clue until then who will win it)

60 year old lady, Diana Nyad, will attempt to swim from Cuba to Miami…  Why?  I don’t like getting past my knees in the gulf.  I don’t have a clue why someone would do this.  She will have an electronic device that will keep sharks away from her, she hopes.

Classic Youtube video

try to spell what the on-site reporter says at the end of the clip

Thursday’s thoughts

A-Rod hit his 600th HR yesterday and I’m pretty sure no one gives a damn.  Is it the fact that no one really cares for A-Rod or is it the fact that 600 doesn’t mean anything anymore.  6 of the 9 players that have 600 have played in the past Decade and almost all of them, if not all, have been tied to PED’s – will he break Bonds’ record?  He hit his 500th 3 years, I think yesterday was exactly 3 years, so that is 33 HR’s a year over just the last 3 years.   If he were to stay on this pace then it would only take him 5 years to pass Bonds’ and I’m not sure we would really care then either.a-rod-massage

ESPN proved day before yesterday that they are just as bad as the National Enquire.  They ran with the Favre story to the point where they were acting like they had spoken with him and had lined up a press conference.  Then they started back tracking saying “Minn has not confirmed this report” then it was “Minn or Brad Childress has not confirmed this report” then it was “Minn or Childress or Favre have confirmed this report”  THEN WHY THE HELL DID YOU RUN WITH IT?!?!  I count on you for legit stories – If I wanted to read bullshit speculation then I would just read this blog.

Hall of Fame class of 2010 has been announced and we are starting to see more and more players that we actually got to watch and enjoy instead of players that old timers told us about.  I heard Emmitt Smith this morning talking about it.  He was giving all this credit to this guy and that guy and the O Line and then he said something that I had really appreciated hearing.  He started the statement out by saying “and of course I have to give credit to the man that made all this possible…” so i’m thinking Jesus, right?  but it wasn’t.  He finished it by saying that Darrell Johnston basically had more to do with his success than any single person.  I’m sure the Moose appreciates and disserves it.  I look forward to hearing his speech at the ceremony.  images

Lance Armstrong is getting some heat from the Fed’s.  I don’t have any details on this and just heard a teaser for the story but it made me ask myself..  Does beating cancer and using your name to raise millions of dollars for research to help find a cure for something that has killed so many people give you a pass on steroids?  Should the Fed’s lay off because of all the good things he has done and is continuing to do?  I mean if you really think about it, if Lance gets busted for steroids wouldn’t that have a negative impact on his abilities to raise money for cancer?  Tell me I am being soft here.  Tell me what he is doing in his personal life has nothing to do with whether or not he cheated.  Because if he did cheat, then I don’t think I really want to know for sure.  I think I am cool with being naive and just assuming that he beat a field of doped up cyclist and he was the only one that wasn’t using 7 years in a row.  lance-armstrong-bike

Does anyone NOT have Ohio State in the BCS Title game?  Marshall, Miami U, Ohio, E Mich, @Illnois, Indiana, @ Wisc, Purdue, @Minn, Penn St, @ Iowa, Michigan.  With a Pre-Season ranking in the top 5 is everyone playing to see who will face off against Ohio St this year?  I can’t wait till the Cornhuskers take over that conference.

I found this article to prove my point even has the sources listed at the bottom feel free to check them.

12 National Championships? … The Real Story

I just wanted to clear up a few misconceptions about Alabama’s claim to 12 national championships based on fact rather than bias. Credit is given where credit is due.

To clear up confusion, the word retroactive means they went back in time to award the championship.

‘TWELVE’ national championships is fraudulent, nothing but pure bunk ginned up by the SID Department. Here’s a rundown:

1925 National Championship- Alabama claims they share this one with Dartmouth. Who awarded the NC? Houlgate and Helms. Houlgate started his system in 1927. So Bama won their 1925 NC using a formula that didn’t exist until 1927? Helms Athletic Foundation started in 1941. Another incredible retroactive NC.

The Associated Press Poll has been active since 1936. The AP took their final poll prior to bowl games from 1936 – 1964 and in 1966 and 1967. They took their final poll after the bowl games in 1965 and from 1968 – Current.

1926 National Championship- Alabama claims they share this one with 3 other teams with equal or better records! Once again it is the Helms Athletic Foundation in 1941 that awards it!

1930 National Championship- The Davis poll says that Bama tied Notre Dame for NC this year. This was the only one to award it to Bama.Notre Dame was named NC in 6 polls! Parke Davis is another retroactive system! He (an individual, not an organization) did his in 1933!

1934 National Championship- Alabama says they share this with two other teams. The awarders are Dunkel, Williamson, and Football Thesaurus. Dunkel was an individual who came up with his own system. Williamson was a geologist who came up with his own system. Football Thesaurus first appeared in 1946!

1941 National Championship- This is a complete joke. The AP ranked Alabama 20th in the nation with 14 teams with better records in the top 20. Once again it is the Football Thesaurus that retroactively awards it. Alabama finished 3rd in the SEC that year. Mississippi State won the SEC title..yet Bama claims a National title!

1961 National Championship- Finally a legitimate NC. .

1964 National Championship- While the AP did award the NC to Bama (10-1-0), Arkansas had the better record, 11-0. Alabama played Texasin their bowl and LOST. The AP final poll was before the bowl.

1965 National Championship- The AP gave this to Bama. That year there were three teams with better records than Bama. Bama 9-1-1, Michigan St 10-1-0, Arkansas 10-1-0, Nebraska 10-1-0.

1973 National Championship- AP puts Bama 4th after their bowl game loss. Bama claims a NC from the UPI poll that was taken before they met Notre Dame in the bowl game and lost. There were 3 teams with better records than Bama that year. The embarrassment of naming Alabama number one caused the UPI to name champions after bowl games. Yet Bammer has no shame in claiming it of course.

1978 National Championship- AP gives this to Alabama(11-1-0) even though USC (12-1-0) had the better record Guess who Alabama lost to that year? USC!!!!!!!!!. UPI gave the NC to USC.

1979 National Championship- Their second legitimate NC. Their first Unanimous NC.

1992 National Championship- Their third legitimate NC. Their second Unanimous NC.

You can see why people ridicule Bama fans when they talk about 12 NCs. The early ones were awarded by individuals years after the games were played. These weren’t consensus polls but NCs awarded by people that had their own formula for determining champions. Some NCs were given before bowl games that Bama lost. Using Alabama logic, Auburn could claim four national championships. But when Bammers brag they like to say they have twelve and Auburn has one. How silly. The NCAA recognizes 6 NCs for Bama and there are only two NCs that Bama has unanimously. You can’t find an Auburn site claiming four national championships but there are plenty Bama sites claiming twelve.

Debunking the Alabama National Championship myths.

Bama…legends in their own minds!

The Remix!!!!!

Is it just me?

Brett Favre anyone?  Who got these texts?  Has anyone heard or seen anyone come out and say “i spoke with Brett and he said he is not coming back” NoBODY!!  But Green Bay fans are saying, “I told you so.”  The difference between Minn and Green Bay is that Minn doesn’t have a Aarron Rogers waiting to step in.  Brett plays next year and will make close to 20 million dollars to do so.  What’s your prediction?2008 ESPY Awards Backstage Audience 2m96OtsyU39l

is it just me or is Deanna smoking hot?  Holy Mother of God she turns me on.  And those breast look like they are doing just fine.

Mike-Shanahan-123008

Is it just me or Shanahan going to be a bad ass in Washington?  Can Washington actually win the NFC East this year?  Dallas is Dallas and until Wade Phillips and Tony Romo aint wearing a Star then they aint winning it all but they are good enough to win the division.  The Giants have some holes to fill but with a new DC they will be better than last year.  Philly will be as good as Kolb and that may end up being pretty damn good.  Now that you have McNabb and Shanahan in the DC could Washington actually be good enough to win their division this year?

If Les Miles feels enough heat under his seat at LSU at the end of this year and Rich Rod doesn’t turn things around with the Big Blue could Les go to Michigan?  AND if he does go could Tommy Tuberville end up in Baton Rouge?  ncf_miles_tubervile_412

Speaking of Tuberville – The AP is talking about giving the 2004 National Title to Auburn after USC’s appeal fails, which it will.  I asked an Auburn fan yesterday if this were to happen how would you feel about it.  He said, “I would buy a damn shirt and wear it everyday.  Half of Alabama’s titles are full of shit.  Ill take it any way I can get it.”  I was a little suprised at his comments.  would you wear a title T shirt if this were your school that you pull for?

What do these #'s have in common? 65,66,71,78,86,98,101,103,113,119

These are the preseason rankings of the 10 teams Boise St plays outside of VT and Oregon St. I've always thought the broncos didn't get enough respect way back when, but damn thats a weak schedule. If they beat VT to open the season, they'll more than likely already be placed in a BCS game.

Thanks Antoine.

Weekend Review

Why do I either make a complete ass out of myself OR create an extremely awkward moment… or like this past weekend I was able to do both.   I was in a wedding this past weekend for my cousin.  Friday we had the rehearsal and everything was going great.  Everyone then went to a country club where we had a very nice dinner.  Then I started drinking Beam…  if you know anything about me and Beam (or any whiskey) then you are seeing something not good in my future.   Bobby, Grady’s brother, gave a nice toast and then someone else did,  then some else did, then some else did, then some else did, then I did.  I stood up and gave what I thought was the best toast of the night.  It was short, little bit of humor, and sweet at the end.  Then I kept drinking.  At the end of the night after every body went home I go up to the rooms where some of the Grooms party was staying and made a complete ass out of myself.  One of Grady’s friends handled the situation about as good as he could and for some reason I turned on my asshole switch.  It wasn’t that big of a deal but it wasn’t my classiest moment.  then I stumbled down stairs and found someone that worked their leaving and asked them to take me home. (i don’t know how to type slur so while reading my parts add a nice slur to it) she said, “where do you live” and I responded, “Alabama.”  She said, “Really?  I can’t take you to Alabama.”  I answered,  “well fuck off then….  wait a minute….  I live here.  I used to live in Alabama.. I mean I still do.  So we cool?”  She was getting a little bit frustrated and asked, “So where do you want me to take you?”  And I answered, “home please. just take me home”  We got it figured out and she took me home.  I stumbled up the stairs and got in bed.

Saturday was pretty low key for me.  I was good about not drinking before the wedding.  I was even better about not drinking anything but red wine after the wedding and I was at home by 11:00 in bed with my family.  Good Right?  I think so.

Sunday…  We go to my Aunt and uncle’s house to have breakfast before we leave.  We were going over who every body was and who liked who and who didn’t.  Then a name came up that sounded familiar to me so I asked who he was.  Then I remembered.  About 2 years ago my cousin who got married had sent out an email to a pretty big group of people.  I looked who all the email was sent to and saw a name I had never seen before.  It was Steve Dumas.  So I “replied to all” - “hey Steve, do you pronounce that Steve Dumb Ass?”  Well he didn’t find it funny so he sent a email back saying something and I thought he was being a dick so I sent one back to everyone saying something like stop being a faggot.  well, it turns out he is a homo and has a life partner.   Well I am in the middle of telling this story when the door opens and someone walks in.  I don’t pay much attention and keep telling my story and guess who it was that walked in??  You guessed it.  Steve Dumb Ass with his life partner…  AWK!!  WARD!!!

Agents and College Players

Not going to be a very long post but I wanted to touch on the Agent/Player relationships that are being talked about at some of the Media Days (especially the ACC and the SEC).  These Agents are sending “runners” to contact players and pay for shit, take them to parties, and eventually getting them to sign with them.  It obviously is becoming a bigger and bigger problem and the NCAA ends up punishing the school several years after the act occurs.  Reggie Bush is a good example of someone who got more than a big screen Tv.  This guy got a damn half million dollar house for his mama-an-nem.  So now a kid that was a freshman in high school at the time of the events, who had absolutely no knowledge of such violations, will not have a chance to play in a bowl game.  I’m sorry but that doesn’t seem like a very fitting punishment.  The head coach, at the time of the events, is now making millions of dollars in Seattle and will have ZERO punishment for allowing this to happen.  The player that took the money and the goods will have a painting of him removed…  that’s it.  BUT!!  the kids that were in high school at the time will be get the punishment.  I just don’t see how this makes any sense.

Solution.  Any person affiliated with a sports agencies in anyway that gets caught giving goods to any student athlete will have the agency that he represents suspended from any negotiations with any NFL team.

????

To all the wrestling fans, see if you know who the guy on the left is. I would have never known if someone had not told me and I watched wrestling religiously during his prime.

Fantasy Football

Last year I was in 5 leagues.  1 on Face book, 1 on Yahoo, and 3 on ESPN.  It was miserable.  This year I will NOT be doing that again.  I have set a limit of 3 leagues, and that is IT.

Ok, I would love for Southern Fired to have a league.  We could do a small league of 8 or 10 – not make it a keeper league, no money, just something else to be able to talk shit about on the blog.

Pulley, Culpepper, Starrett, Reese, Joe, Jody, Rusty, and I bet Jimbo would also.  Hell, that is 8 people right there.

I am all about a “LIVE” draft though.  Let me know what you guys think.
